~ My lord we must flee. The secret passage is yet to be unraveled. The nobleman seemed troubled. Not because he had to flee but because his beloved, unmatched cavalry had been outsmarted. The man who had tried to kill him managed to flee his prison cell while they were guarding the walls aswell. Rogue sat with his back towards one of the central pillars holding up the roof thinking about the events that had transpired. Knight held the left until the enemy retreated to make sure that the cavalry could reach the city to resupply and rest. At the same time Goliath and the defenders on his side pushed the enemy so far back that had the enemy not moved away from the city they would have had been left with devastating losses thanks to the cavalry being able to rest within the walls. The nobleman commanding the city cried out with joy as I brought back a halfdead Knight and unconsious Goliath. Two days passed during which there were three assssination attempts and one failed attempt at charging the enemy line with the towns milita. Strategically a move that was both idiotic aswell as desperate. As if that was not enough. Today started with Goliath waking up and ransacking the food storage. The healer we had paid for had slipped out with the rest of the people through the secret passageway in the caves leaving Knight alive but still unconcious. Oh, and of course let's not forget the fall of the walls and taking of the city. They still had the inner walls. Without enough men to protect them. So the order to flee into the caves had been issued. They could only wish that they had held off the invasion army long enough for the royal army to arrive and push them back. But for now dread and miserable thoughts were all that was left to pass the time with. After what seemed to be an eternity the commander gave in. He ordered some men to carry Knight through the caves. That left Goliath and Rogue with someone that thought he would keep his dignity by going last. And it left the two of them feeling like idiots for taking on a job for a person with such a strong deathwish. The last man from the walls left into the hidden hatch in the floor. Men could be heard climbing the walls with a united roar only to be quickly quieted as they met no resistance. The city hall's doors slammed open moments later and the looting began. The hatch would take time to find. It was practicly invisible to anyone that did not know it was there, which few did. Hopefully they would make it far into the tunnels before they could follow. Passing through the mountain to get to the otherside would take a few hours. The commander had sent down people with supplies first and had them place rations at diffrent hidden rooms. As they walked behind the commander he could be heard muttering to himself quietly at first but later as if he was having a fullblown argument with someone. Goliath made a sign that showed he wanted to knock him out and then carry him the rest of the way but Rogue kept shaking his head. None of them said a word for the first four hours of walking. They just now caught up to the first towns people. Knight was still out cold from his injuries. Goliath had walked the entire day with a limp. He refused to relax with the rest of the people on the run and kept working as a rearguard. Rogue decided to scout ahead and see how many people were being left behind. He came back to find that the last group that had left were all sitting down eating or laying down sleeping next to one of the hidden rooms filled with food and rations. Most of the people here were either old or injured. Knight's breathing had returned to normal but no one knew for how long he was going to be out of commission. The commander that seemed to have lost most of his sanity by this point swore to hang the healer that had left his duty to heal a member or the royal family. The few guards that were still hanging around this group did so out of respect for Knight more than to protect their commander. Rogue could'nt find Goliath and since he generally stuck out thanks to his size he asked a few of the guards who pointed him in the direction of from where they had fled from. He had apparantly gone back after eating to take care of any scout that had managed to catch up to them. Rogue grabbed a waterskin, some dry jerky and told the commander of his plan to set a few traps to slow any persuers while the rest kept walking along. The last group were behind the second to last group by atleast three hours since they moved at a snails pace.
Roughly thirty minutes back the way they came Goliath stood in a sea of blood.
~ Seems like they sent more than just a few scouts. He said with a smile towards the giants back. Goliath's head slowly turned. His eyes having a red lightning instead of a pupil striking at his whites. He had begun to rage in the middle of his fight and the effects were now slowly subsiding. Steam came off his body in rapid sucession. He seemed stuck in in that one specific spot. His head snapped forward again and his eyes closed. After another minute snoring could be heard.
~ You overwork yourself too much there friend. He said as he moved passed thw sleeping giant and walked for another ten minutes before stopping and starting setting up a bunch of traps every fifty meters.
Knight woke up in a soft bed roughly two weeks after having first passed out. Blue hair was the only thing he saw as the young mage ordered to keep an eye on him had fallen asleep next to him in bed. He gentle got out of bed and got dressed. He had barely lost any weight and he didn't feel hungry at all either. He left the room to find himself in a rather large mansion. After checking the closest rooms he finally ran into a maid who answered all of his question. As he asked how the war effort was going a loud scream came from the room he had woken up in and out flew a young mage with long blue hair on a broom down the hallway and stairs where she in a panic started half screaming at a familiar voice. Knight followed after the loud conversation which was more of a monolog than a discussion and decended down the stairs where he found Rogue in formal noble clothing. He looked more regal Than Knight had ever seen him before. His long dark hair combed back and his beard kept in check. A sight he wouldn't soon forget. Rogue smiled at him as he turned the blue haired girl around to find her patient alive and well. Before she could say anything Rogue interrupted her.
~ You look well. I'm glad the mages we paid for did a good job. He smiled and nodded towards the front door.
~ Come outside when you are ready we have much to discuss.
