Chapter 8 - Scar the Undead pt 8

Scar immediately moved back after seeing their suspicious eyes towards her. One of the soldiers turned back to the kid.

"Is this a joke, there's nothing there." He said with an irritated voice. "Do you honestly think there's a-" The man got cut off by a soldier next to him.

"Hang on, there is something there. The kids not lying, don't you see those glowing eyes? Like yellow and blue? what could they be from." The soldier said cautiously approaching Scar.

"See that's the wolf!" The boy shouted but was instantly silenced by one of the soldiers. Scar slowly walked back knowing that there was no way out except the front. She pulled her hood in front of her eyes trying to conceal them. She lowered her breathing and looked down to the floor hoping nobody can see her. The man hesitated for a moment and then looked back at the people.

"There's nothing here!" He confirmed signalling everyone to go about their business. The soldiers who were with the boy were now giving him warnings and telling him to just head home. They also let his mother go giving her a warning too. The mother immediately hugged him and guided him away from scar to their home, however the kid kept staring, waiting for her to come out. After a few minutes scar poked her head out to see that the soldiers have left the scene and there were only a few people there so she could pass by with no problems. She was still in search of Rebel and slain however she had other matters to attend to.

"Scar!? Scar! Slain!? Anyone?!" Rebel screamed as he passed through the town, attracting suspicious eyes following his every move. What? Haven't you ever seen a talking wolf before? Jerks. He thought irritated. He kept trudging on when a peculiar smell stopped him in his tracks. His stomach responded straight away, making his mouth water. "Now that I think about it I haven't had anything to eat since the trip to Jades bar. I'm not Scar, I can't survive without food I'm sure a nibble won't hurt." Rebel muttered walking off to where the scent was coming from. His nose guided him to a bakery to the heart of the city. The smell came from a meat pie that was now sitting on the window sill being cooled off. He reaped up to it readying himself to take a bite when a thought occurred to him. Where is everyone? He looked around and saw the streets completely deserted. He looked around but saw no soul in sight. He then peaked through the window sill and saw nobody attending to any pastries or pies. This is weird. He thought but his words cut off by the rumbling of his stomach. One bite won't hurt, would it? But what if its a trap? I'm sure scar and Slain will find me. But- I can't even find them and I'm the tracker. Hang on... their scents. I haven't had a whiff of them since I got here. All I can smell is the pie. This hot, mouth-watering pie. Is that meat? Rebel thought, his stomach clouding his judgment. He couldn't take it anymore. His stomach won the fight and he took a giant bite out of it. A second later, while he was devouring the pie he heard the door unlock. He immediately ducked down hiding from the owner. The person looked around, but then their footsteps accelerated as they walked over to the window sill.

"I can't believe this. I thought with people going to the festival, the pie would be safe from... thieves?" She sounded unsure as she looked at her half-eaten meat pie. Rebel on the other hand was holding his breath and stayed a still as a statue. Wait I recognise that voice. He thought. He had to take a peek just to be sure but didn't want to risk it. "It looks like it was eaten by an animal, and by the looks of things very recently." She said. Suspicion immediately clouds over her as she jumps out the window barely missing Rebel and now looking around for the culprit. Rebel looked up and saw the back of the woman. She had flowing blonde hair down to her shoulders and wore some sort of hunting outfit which was altered to a dress. She also wore a belt which held up a bag full of arrows and in her had was a bow. Rebel saw how strong and dignified she looked and then realised she was the woman that went up against Scar in the archer contest. The sudden realisation cost him a gasp which instantly caught the woman's attention. She sharply turned around holding an arrow against his head within seconds. They held their positions in silence for a while before Rebel began to talk awkwardly.

"I suppose you have a few questions." Rebel began with uncertainty. The woman flinched after hearing him talk and just steadied her bow again not giving up her stance.

"How are you able to talk?" She asked with suspicion.

"Don't shoot ok. I was just hungry. I'll make you a new meat pie. Better than this one. I'm not saying this one isn't good, I mean I would have finished it if you didn't come back. Oh, but then that's stealing. I wasn't trying to steal anything from you but- I mean how did you make it that good? That's what I'd like to-" Rebel rambled until the woman rested his arrow against his fur.

"Are you avoiding my question?" She asked.

"Are you avoiding mine?" Rebel responded now deeply regretting letting himself talk before thinking. The woman looked at him then seemed a little taken aback.

"You look familiar..." She said thinking back.

"What? No, it must be your imagination." Rebel said nervously. "There are plenty of wolves that look like me."

"No, I remember a few villages back, you and that guy who somehow managed a shot." She said with sharp eyes glaring at him. "What was his name again?... Scam?" She said thinking back.

"Sure..." Rebel said uncertainly. He then moved the arrow to point the other way noticing that it was inching closer to his eye.

"So... what are you doing here? Are you stalking me or something? Where is that guy, I'd love to know how he cheated his way to my money." She said still holding a steady gaze on him.
