Chapter 36 - TORREN PLAN TO HAVE A DINNER

'Shawney would say the evening was special, not magical but special.'

Thinking about it now, 'Shawney had only left us for five minutes to speak with her family while Doctor Joseph and I had a nice chat.'

When he said he was invited by Robert, I was surprised especially when I heard that Robert is his Uncle and his wife is Shawney Aunt.

'Boy, I felt so relieved as the thought cross my mind she and Doctor Joseph were more than friends.

If only she could have come home with me, but she said they are having a family reunion tomorrow and she had to stay and help but she promises to visit soon.

I believe it is time that we have a dinner party and invite the family and a few friends.'

Hearing the clock bang ten, Torren crawl out the bed, 'I could go for a ride today.'

Walking down the stairs hearing her running and laughing, these few days I have been spending lots of time with her, she has changed so much.

The way she used to cry and giving Liz trouble, that has stopped, and she is drinking her tea better.

Seeing Gretta came running towards him, he stoop down and scope her up in his arms, "Are you being a good girl for Aunty Liz?"

"Good girl daddy."

"Liz will you tell Mrs. Louise I will like an omelet please, and bring a snack for Gretta please."

"Yes, Sir, and you be good for your Daddy."

Feeling her small hands stroking his face, "Daddy, you are my daddy."

When Dad calls out to her, I kiss her then put her down as she runs to him, "Papa ride?"

"You didn't forget?"

"I go ride the car."

"Yes, Papa will take his angel for cake and ice-cream."

Hearing her clapping saying, "ice-cream, ice-cream."

Waking early to help Uncle Robert to prepare the meal hearing he was cooking." Shawney, I observed you were dining with Mac Carty Son last night?"

"Yes Uncle, we met about two months ago and he invited me to visit him anytime I am in San Francisco, but I met Torren at the clinic where Joseph work."

"I didn't had any idea that you and Joseph knew each other?"

"I didn't know until I met Aunty in town and wanted to know where I was staying, when I told her that I was volunteering my time at the clinic, then she told me about Joseph."

"Have you visited Train yet?"

"Yes, but only for a few days but before I leave San Francisco, I will visit again."

"Train, is a good friend, we went to school together, now pass me that carrot."

"I see Aunty don't need to cook."

"True, but she helps like you, cooking is my hobby."

"Uncle, do you think that will be sufficient vegetables?"

"Honey, when we finish fixing the other dishes, this will be more than enough."

"Then there's no need to worry, so you handle this here and let me start on the desert."

"Dad, how about we make some appetizers?"

"If you have the time feel free Son."

"Shawney will you assist me?" "Sorry Pal, I already started on dessert, but if you help me here when everything is in the oven, I will help you.

Oh, Mitch do you mind holding on here, I will be back in a sect."

Hearing Aunty Joan enters the kitchen and she keeps looking around, "Aunty Joan, is it something you wanted?" Mitch asks.

"Yes, they told me Shawney was in here, I needed her to fix my breakfast."

"Sorry, she is not here but everyone had the leftovers."

"Sorry Son, I need Shawney to fix my meal, she is the only one who can."

"So, when she is not home, how do you manage?"

"I survive, but she is here now." "Sorry, but she went on an errand for dad and that will take a while."

"That girl is so lazy, she always running away from doing work."

"Aunty Joan, if you want your breakfast, let Shantel come and fix it for you, we cannot help you, our hands are full as you can see."

"I rather eat leftovers than Shantel fixing my breakfast."

Seeing her storm out the kitchen, "That child has a right to run from that house.

They have her like a servant.

When her Dad used to tell Paula, I used to think he was making a mountain out of a mold hill, but I believe it now," Robert sigh.

"Dad, I believe we should get her married, she is the eldest of the cousins and every one of her brothers and sisters has already married."

"Leave the child alone, when the right person comes along in her life, she will get married."

"Dad your friend son who she was sitting with last night, they seem to like each other."

"Mitch that young man was married, and his wife died, he was admitted in a mental asylum, why should we put her through that and besides he has two children.

After she had already taken care of her siblings, do you think it fair that she go over that process again?

She loves the Lord, let her enjoy what she loves best, God always takes care of his children."

"Yeah, she might grow into an old maid, if we don't help her."

"Yeah, go ahead and help God do his work like Sarah, get her a Hager, I hope in the end you don't have regrets."

"Do you have to be like that?"

"Son, I am not getting involved, I learn my lesson a long time ago, to watch my house and let others do the same.

This gathering is your Mother wish, if it did leave to me, I would have taken her for a holiday."

"But dad, this is good, the cousins are mingling together after so many years."

"I agree with what you are saying, but I only hope later that loud mouth Aunt of yours, don't go making trouble because she always does."

Hearing Shawney saying, "Aye, I am sorry I took so long."
