Zyron's Pov
Dinner at Villa de Ortega was never this heavy before.
The silverware was minimally clinking, and the chandelier lights were gently hissing—sounds that usually meant comfort, the familiar rhythm of my family's evenings. But tonight, every sound only made the tension around the table more visible.
Kai—my younger sister—was sitting across from me with her chin raised, her brown eyes shining as if with a challenge. "It would have been a lot better if you had brought your girlfriend Trix, to dinner" she said, deliberately emphasizing the word girlfriend. With her glance, as sharp as a knife, she flicked towards Savannah, who was sitting next to me, standing there like a statue.
Mama's spoon clanged against her plate. "Kaidence!" Her voice was like a whip that hit the mark. "Enough with that attitude!"
Kai stuck her fork into the vegetables, raised her shoulders in a feigned shrug, but the sparkle of rebellion in her eyes didn't diminish either.
