I was still sitting on the couch, my elbows resting on my knees, both hands buried in my hair. The silence inside the house was deafening. The only sound I could hear was the faint ticking of the wall clock — each second felt heavier, sharper, like it was cutting straight through my chest.

All I could do was wait.

Wait for a call from the kidnappers who had taken Trixy.

My phone lay on the table, connected to Ryker's laptop. We had everything ready — the signal tracker, the voice recorder, the triangulation app. But even with all the preparation, my heart felt like it was about to explode.

Every second she was gone felt like a lifetime.

Then —

Ring.

The shrill tone of the phone sliced through the quiet air, making everyone freeze.

My breath hitched. Ryker's eyes shot toward me. I could tell by the way his fingers hovered above the keyboard that he was ready.

I grabbed the phone from the table, my hands trembling slightly when I saw the screen.
