Chapter 4 - Concerns

August 9 2018 4:57 PM

It has been a couple of days after the case opened and nothing serious has happened. Everyone was all over the place and almost all of them looked like they haven't slept in days. Leo was one of the few people that weren't assigned to the case, all he had to was update some old cases.

He was very worried for Jay, he look terrible and seemed to be stressed even more than the rest of his team. Jay was the type that wasn't overwhelmed by feelings easily, making Leo wonder what exactly happened.

"He isn't telling me everything" he said aloud to himself but didn't think to hard about it since Jay had always been the type to keep things to himself.

Leo went to meet up with his coworker, Alice, at some park in order to discuss some stuff about their work. He got there a "little" earlier than the agreed time, so he was forced to wait a bit, while he waited for her to arrive, he decided to called Jay.

"Hey" said Jay as he picked up the phone.

"What are you up to?" Leo asked, "How is the case".

"The case has improved much but I'm waiting for the results on the evidence that my team turned in since apparently there were finger prints on the knife" Jay replied, "What about you?".

"I'm currently meeting up with Alice, we want to discuss some details of some old files" he replied.

"Stop lying, you just wanted to meet up with her" Jay said jokingly, "Who knows maybe she is interested in you as well, you're pretty good looking"

"Shut up" Leo said as he hung up the phone. 'Maybe he is right, I might have a chance with her'. He shook his head, 'I should stop thinking about things'.

When Alice arrived, they started talking about some work stuff, "The division chief might assign us to the recent case if anything bad happens" said Alice. Leo simply nodded as he heard this, he kept thinking about what Jay had said.

"Wanna go eat dinner?" he said in a hopeful voice.

Jay just arrived to where the lab was within their division, he was reading some files as he waited for the results. He had started researching Amanda and the men with her but couldn't find much about them. Apparently, Amanda went missing a couple years back and was declared dead, while he couldn't find anything about the men due to not knowing their names.

He was waiting impatiently for the results so that he would be able to continue with his research about them.

"Good morning" someone said in a cheerful voice, behind him stood Aria.

"Sleep well?" Jay asked, "Mhm" she answered.

Aria and Jay had started to talk more, partly due to their job and partly because Aria was interested in him. Jay had also started to get along with Alex and Steven due to spending more time with them.

"Have you found anything new regarding the case?" he asked, "No, no one has found anything regarding the murder, we are all under so much pressure that many of us can't think properly".

He agreed with this, he was in such a rush to find something, in order to send the report to the higher ups. His ability had helped found out who was behind the murder but he can't simply state that fact since it would raise suspicion and that is the last thing he needed. He wanted to find some solid evidence before giving this information to the superiors. At least he knows where to start, whereas the rest were completely lost.

Jack Arnold, was the name he received by the lab workers, that was all he needed in order to continue his search. Jack and Amanda were part of a criminal organization that the FBI nearly eradicated around 8 years back, both of them were on the run, while Amanda most likely faked her death, Jack had completely out ran the FBI, which was extremely difficult and rare to do.

There wasn't much information to go off by, which concerned him greatly but he had no other option. He quickly wrote his report, revised it and sent it to the division chief, after that he went home. He didn't even make to his bed before he passed out due to exhaustion.

'Fuck my body hurts, I shouldn't have used my ability' he thought, his ability had a few restrictions and setbacks. He can only use his ability once a day and only view the past 24 hours of a single person and after using his ability he would get a severed headache and nausea. This are the few things he knows about his ability since he tries to minimize the use of it.

He got up from the floor, dragged himself to his bed and fell asleep.

A couple hours later he woke up to his alarm, he had Saturday off, having a day off was like heaven when he recently had serious case to solve. He made breakfast and was watching the news. His phone started ringing, the person calling him was his uncle.

"Hey uncle, how have you been?" Jay asked as he answered the phone. "I've been very well, what about you?"

"There was a very stressful case but we found who did it, all we need is to apprehend the criminals" he answered. "How is aunt recovering?" he asked.

"Your aunt doing just fine" said uncle Mathew, "How are Lisa and Melinda?" Jay asked. "Lisa started second year in high school while Melinda is in her last year".

'He changed a lot since that fateful day' uncle Mathew thought.

"Hmm, don't overwork yourself" said uncle Mathew, "Same goes for you, old man"

He heard the old man chuckle, as he hanged up the phone.

It was a quick but important call, and he was glad everything was fine with them.

After finishing the call, he spent the rest of the day reading his book and continued to watch tv. There were still some news regarding the murder but not as much since it had been a couple of days. The thought of having murderers that haven't been caught lingered in people's mind.
