Chapter 24 - It’s Starting

Jackal's pov

Slade Wilson was always sharp, on top of his game, and always on high alert. However, he's still a man and men are always pragmatic when women are involved. He will be at that hospital. I ordered any and all insiders out. No matter how talented an agent could be, Deathstroke was better than anyone sniffing out spies. I ordered that there would be no bugs on the inside.

There were to be no vans outside. We were going to leave nothing to fuel Slade's paranoia. His animal instincts were already onto us.

Not us specifically, but he's going to be watching like a wolf. However, there's another part of his instinct that we will use against him. He's a lone wolf, and will need air eventually.

We were to watch him through the cities and hospital's cameras. He knows that he's being watched, we all are whenever we enter a cornerstone; we just grew comfortable with it. Yet we never know who COULD be watching and in Slade's case, it's us.

With the setup that we have prepared, no one could escape. It's like I have an army at my disposal. Once Slade leaves, the blood shall flow anew.

Kevin Grant's pov

"Osiris, stay calm."

I knew the look in his eyes, irrational rage, "What do you know?!"

"I swear by my God, life, blood and honor I know nothing." I attempted placating.

"It was-," Cassandra gulped, "it was US soldiers."

"What?!" Robin said.

Oracle rolled over to him, still crying on his knees, and gripped his shoulders, "Osiris, this is proof that you need to stay in the tower."

"This is proof that I am persona non grata. I need to leave but not without my sister, lest Kahndaq declare a war that could throw the world into chaos."

("Persona non grata" in government is a declaration that a person i.e. a ambassador is not welcome there. Venezuela has declared persona non grata twice in recent history. In the case of ambassador Daniel Kriener, he was given 48-hours to leave the country.)

"Is there anything that your sister could have done to merit this?" I asked.

"Never! She's the only woman on Earth keeping Black Adam from turning back to his ruthless ways. The only one sweet and tender enough to reach him."

"If you are worried about the government knocking on our door and black hooding you," I declared, "I won't let that happen."

He laughed a broken laugh, "That doesn't mean much coming from you, as I don't know you, but thank you if your words are true."

"Just sit tight," Robin said, "we'll find her."

"Get out! Just get out! Let me think!"

"Osiris-" Cass protested.

"Everyone!" He screamed, "Get out!"

At that we all just backed away, Cass being last leaving the plate on the floor next to him. Through the rest of the night I could hear him praying for Isis' salvation and his enemies' damnation. However, if corrupt government units came I'd stand by my word.

Osiris never came out of his room. We put all other investigations aside and even had Batman on video call. The living room was darkened like the meeting we had before but I wasn't in restraints.

"I received your email," his gravelly voice said, "Cassandra, tell me everything you can remember."

It felt comforting to have the best detective in the world on the case. Osiris, however no doubt wasn't optimistic. No doubt he thought we were all against him. Could you imagine being imprisoned here? Well actually, I can kinda relate to that.

Cassandra told what she could with every detail included.

"I'm going to check her quarters now for clues. Isis is top priority for now. I'd get John and Clark to help but they are still away helping in the Lantern War going on. I need you all to stay and contain Osiris until we find his sister. After this, they will return to Kahndaq for a while."

"What happens if we don't find her?" I asked.

"The government isn't doing this. The Batcomputer has access to the FBI, CIA, Interpol and et cetra. However, a high profile diplomat under our security disappeared under the suspicion that the government orchestrated it. Persona non grata or any other message wasn't communicated. Killing or abduction is an ample enough message for Black Adam to call for war. Then the school terror attack ties back to him as well. Someone wants war with him."

"And that is equivalent to?" I asked.

"A Third World War. I'm getting everyone in the League to look for her, just make sure Osiris doesn't complicate things any further. He has a portion of Adam's power so he's a powerhouse to be reckoned with and he's not to be underestimated."

"Understood." I answered.

Ozymandias was in his office when he dreamed of machines, demons, and mechanized demons burning earth. The tumors, throbbing in his head like a parasite in his brain even when he slept. Waking from his slumber with a sweating start and a pained groan he began to cough into his handkerchief. Blood was on his lips when he pulled the cloth away. His pager was ringing, that blue light was going and he put it on speaker.

"We have Isis sir."

"Good, harness some of her healing power in the machine I gave you." He added, "Be extra careful of what you do in front of her. When I give you the kill order her memories will feed back to Black Adam. If anyone comes knocking, kill her."

"And Osiris?"

"Another team is working on having him come to you. Forging documents and planting them in databases and such to cover our tracks. Kill him on sight."

Ozymandias hung up the phone and leaned back in his seat.

"It's all starting," he said, "all I need is that stupid angel's Kryptonian. Cir-El." He added, complaining to himself, "Then those bloody Baron's and their Heart."
