Chapter 23 - Not the motor home.

Hades and I exchanged a look. I saw the little circular handle and grabbed it, pulling it back to reveal.... a huge hole in the ground.

A ladder made it's way down into the depths of the earth. This is my worst nightmare.

"Ladies first," Hades said, smirking.

If I said no frigging way, I'd look like a scaredy cat. So of course I made my way down first.

It couldn't be a motor home, no. Way too easy. It obviously had to be a hole way down deep into the ground, with a makeshift fucking rickety ladder. Anything to make my job harder.

'Fuck this fuck this fuck this,' I thought with each step lower. My spine was tingly, my hair was standing on edge.

Finally, finally we reached the bottom. We were maybe twenty feet down. And it was dark. I pulled out my small flashlight and swung it around.

I groaned internally.

Of course there were tunnels.

Three tunnels branched off in different directions. Before I could even say anything to Hades, he had whipped out his cell phone.

'Who is he calling?' I immediately thought.

Whoever it was didn't answer, so he sent a text. Within a few seconds, a ping rang out and he smiled.

"An Aevis is coming to assist in whatever this is," he whispered.

The world almost stopped spinning for a moment.

We were down here in the depths of the earth, I was uncomfortable enough. Why bring one of those creeps here too?

"What?" I half whispered, half shouted. Hades looked shocked.

"What? We don't know which way is which down here. We could get lost and end up dying in here. An Aevis could help, they live their whole lives underground, plus they could probably sniff Richard out way easier than we could. We didn't come prepared this time."

He's right. We did not come prepared. We had no idea where this guy was, much less that he was underground. If we did, we could've brought equipment that would've made this a breeze.

I sighed.

"Fine," I whispered back, "but if he eats me, it's on you."
