Chapter 12 - Forbidden Information

Supergirl:

As we walk up a white marble pathway with golden lines, I turn and see many people swimming around.

Men and women, some looking human, most having fins and scales, are all swimming around, going about their days. I see a young woman with a small boy, both with fins on their backs, arms, and legs. They're swimming up to what I think is a food stall. The woman pulls out some coins from her pockets and gives them to the stall owner. The stall owner, a tall fish with glasses and a hat, gives the woman and her boy a bag. Besides those two, I see another pair, both fish with green skin and black strips. One appears to be older than the others, and the younger fish is helping the older one swim around. Finally, almost hidden in the undersea mountain is a young couple, a man and woman with blue and pink scales. They're both laughing and sharing a meal. Clearly, they're on a date

"I wonder where all these people came from," Slade says, looking out the same window.

As we all walk through the pathway, someone spots us and points. The second everyone turns and sees us, they quickly back away before swimming off and disappearing.

"They are not happy to see you," Aquaman growls. "Any of you."

"No one is ever happy to see me," The Man says. "What's your point?"

"My point is, I do not want any of you in my kingdom a moment longer than is necessary."

"Awesome, because I do not want to be here any longer than is necessary. Besides, we have plans afterward."

"We do?" Harleen asks.

"Yes. After Atlantis, we also need to hurry to Themyscira."

"Themyscira?" I repeat.

"The Paradise Island?" Barry asks. "Why there?"

"Superman wasn't only preparing submarines. He was also preparing boats loaded with soldiers and weapons. I figure there's only one place worth sailing to."

As I listen to The Man, I notice some of the guards and even Aquaman frowning. They're trying to hide it, but with my super hearing, I can hear them grinding their teeth.

"Hey," I whisper, leaning into Selina. "Does Aquaman have something against the Amazons on Themyscira?"

"I'm surprised you don't know. During Superman's first regime, the Amazons helped the Insurgency. They fought off Aquaman's invading forces, driving them back into the ocean."

"What? That really happened?"

"Yes. I guess the Atlanteans are still a little sore about the loss."

Reaching another set of doors, this one taller and embedded with more gold, it opens by itself. Leading into what I can assume is the throne room, I see a red carpet on the floor, statues on both sides, more than 30 guards, and a pair of chairs right in the center of the room. Sitting in one of the chairs is a woman with a green jumpsuit and long red hair.

"Your Majesty," The Man says as he approaches the woman. Putting his arm in front of his stomach, The Man then lowers his head.

"Is he bowing?"

"What the hell," Jason says.

The woman, the queen, blinks and stares at The Man.

"Uhhh. Raise your head, surface dwellers."

The Man raises his head and looks at the queen.

"Queen Mera, it is a pleasure to see you again."

"Again?"

"Again," Queen Mera repeats. "Do I know you?"

"Sort of, but not really. I do, however, still owe you a debt."

We all look at each other as we try to figure out what The Man meant. Even the guards are murmuring among themselves.

Aquaman, taking the empty sea beside Queen Mera, stomps the end of his trident into the ground. Hearing the echoing thud, all the guards straighten up.

"You have my attention," Aquaman says, looking right at us. "What do you have to tell me?"

Standing up, The Man reaches into his pocket. The guards aim their weapons but lower them when they see The Man pulling out his cell phone. Doing something on it, The Man then grabs pictures from his phone and throws them into the air. Some are the same ones he showed before, but some are new.

"As I started before, I believe Superman and his One Earth government will soon be attempting to invade and maybe even conquer Atlantis."

"What?" Queen Mera says, putting her hand to her mouth.

"These pictures were taken only days ago. They show a fleet with an army, armed to the teeth, preparing to dive under the sea. The way we figure it, there's only one place worth going to underwater."

"Okay," Aquaman says, nodding.

Grabbing and throwing more pictures into the air, we see schematics and blueprints of cannons, guns, and even vehicles.

"Odd. I don't remember seeing any of these before. Not in The Man's base or Superman. What are these?"

While I don't seem to recognize the designs, Aquaman and Mera do.

"How did you get these," Aquaman says, slowly standing up.

"Your plasma cannons are strong, but not strong enough to pierce the hulls of Superman's subs. They were designed by Cyborg and Batman, so--"

"How did you get these!" Aquaman screams and slams his trident into the floor again. The Man stops talking and looks at Aquaman.

"These are Atlantis's cannons and weapons. Schematics of our turtle ships and our Kraken battleship. That is our shield generator. How did you get the blueprints for these! No one outside Atlantis should have these. Guards!"

Not wasting a second, the Atlantean guards surround us and aim their rifles.

"I told you," Jaime shouts. His face plate activating, he raises his arms and brings out his arm cannons. Jaime, Leonard, Oliver, and the rest of us raise our weapons.

"Hey, hey, hey," The Man says, putting up his hands. "Enough! That is enough! Everyone, put down your--"

Before The Man can finish or anyone can shoot, an explosion shakes the whole building. The statues shake and the roof crumbles, with dust and bits of stone falling.

"What was that?" Aquaman looks around before looking at us. "Was that you?"

Pushing my way through everyone, I grab The Man's shoulder.

"Was that you?" I ask.

"Of course not," The Man answers. "Thanks for the vote of confidence, by the way."

Another explosion shakes the building, forcing some of us and even some of the guards to their knees. A few statues even fall over and break into thousands of pieces.

"Is that Superman?" Barry asks. "Is he already here?"

We all turn to The Man. The Man raises his hand and places two fingers on his forehead. A few seconds later, he lowers his hand and shakes his head.

"No, it's not. It's a submarine, alright, but not one of Superman's."

"How do you know that?" Pamela asks.

"I was communicating with a decapodiformes outside the city."

I turn around and see most of the Insurgents blinking their eyes.

"Squid. Decapodiformes is the scientific name for squids. Anyway, according to a squid resting outside the city, Atlantis is being attacked by a submarine. A different one!"

"A different one? What are you talking about?"

"Superman's submarines, the Hextron 40,000, are yellow and modified with sound cannons and torpedo launchers. The one attacking Atlantis right now is black and only has torpedo launchers."

"So it really not Superman's submarine?" Barry asks.

"Isn't that what I just said?"

"If it's not Superman, then who is it? I thought no one but us and Superman knew where Atlantis was."

"There's one other person I can think of who knows where Atlantis is."

"A regime?"

"Surprisingly, no. He just really, really hates Aquaman."

"Oh, no," Harleen moans. "You can't mean--"

"Yeah. I do."

"Who," I shout. "Who are you two talking about?"

"Black Manta."
