Chapter 9 - The Berserker

Fenrir was lost in thought from seeing his siblings this wounded. Sleipnir laid there on the pyramid floor bleeding out. Hel winced as she held the spear and tried to slow down the bleeding with her ice. Fenrir looks back to Set and Anubis and was immediately filled with anger.

"Fenrir! Snap out of it. We must stop them then we can help Hel and Sleipnir!" Jormangundr slithers over as quick as he could. Fenrir's power flows around him causing the sand around the pyramid, his eyes shifted from blue over to red as he now no longer had control. His horns and spikes both grew longer and thicker. He looks up and howls, sending ripples through the air.

"Hah! So it doesn't matter which one it is. The end is here my son." Set finishes his incantations and watched as Fenrir relaxes. His size has grown significantly compared to before as he is now larger than Jormangundr.

"Brother..." Fenrir glares down at Jormangundr then glances up at the crimson sky. Jormangundr shakes his head then scoops Hel and Sleipnir up with his tail and place them on his head and retreats. thinking back on the agreement they all had, this was the only time Fenrir would be left to himself. Once he got back to the ocean Jormangundr looked back and saw hundreds of creatures rising from the sand. All of them had a head of a Jackal and had the same weapon as Fenrir which Hel still holds. Each one surrounded Fenrir and began to swarm him only to be swatted away like ants.

"Set..." Fenrir managed before howling again this time shattering the Pyramid and sending each wave of beast warrior flying or turned back to sand. The hound looks back down with his eyes closed, smoke spewing from the corner of his mouth. He reopened his eyes and stares at Set.

He looks up at Fenrir then turns away. Fenrir leaps up into the air and lands back in front of Set. "Why have you done this Set..."

Set smirks and forms a spear out of sand. "I'm the God of Chaos, my boy. What do you expect from me?" He turns back around and throws the spear far into the air. Fenrir looks up and watches as it grows larger with each second. Once it is at it's maximum size, it aims downward and falls. After seconds of falling, the Spear falls and pierces Jormangundr who had just reached the shore, causing him to collapse onto the ground with his dying siblings still resting on his head. Fenrir looked down at the smiling god debating on what he should do.

The god laughs and turns away. Sand swirling near him as he walks over to Anubis. Right before he got closer, Set is smacked face first into the wall in front of him. Fenrir growls, knowing that would be a first time he ever hit a God. He shakes it off and then sprints away to check on the others. The massive wolf rushes through the desert, clearing distance faster than before. He finally reached the beach once again and is greeted by the Atlantic Ocean. Fenrir crouches, preparing to leap hoping he can cross the ocean in one.

He takes a deep breath then swiftly leaps as far as he can. The wind blowing through his fur and before he knew it he lands the tree line just away from Jormangundr. Fenrir rushes over then transforms into his mortal form and rushes to check on Hel and Sleipnir. Jormangundr was still able but barely. Hel clenched the spear that pierced through her. "Fenrir..."

"The three of us don't have much time left Fenrir. Sleipnir is still alive, clinging to the thread of life he still has."

He placed his hand on Sleipnir's side. "This is all my fault..." He says as he looks down. Hel places her hand on his shoulder. "When you came to us, we didn't just want to help you because we believed you...." He looks up slowly and over to Hel. "I wanted to help you because you're my brother... The same goes for Sleipnir and Jormangundr. None of us were with you in your time so we don't know what you went through." She drops her hand and grips the spear again. "Always remember us when we are gone."

He shook it off and began to examine the spears. "If I can get these out, you guys might have a chance..."

"Do not bother, Fenrir. Once they went through, spikes were formed. I already attempted to pull it from the two of us as Jormangundr fled." Hel looks down being half dead and now dying again she's uncertain of what to think. She sighs softly then presses her hand against Fenrir, a wall of ice forming around him. "Go... You still have time to help Grandfather and the others."

Fenrir stood up, pounding his fists on the wall. "I can't leave you here to die!" He then stopped and saw a slight smirk from Hel.

"You should know who I am. Jormangundr are you ready?

He closes his eyes. "Do it before we lose Sleipnir."

She pushed the wall, causing a cage of ice to surround Fenrir and set the cube down on the ground. Pressing her hands against Sleipnir and Jormangundr, ice began to spread through their bodies. Sleipnir was first, freezing completely then shattering into dust. Jormangundr was second, waiting to shatter until Hel was covered. Once the once spread throughout her body, she smiled one last time

"Good bye brother. I always loved you..." With her dying breath, both her and Jormnagundr shattered into dust and blown away by the wind.

The ice cage he was in dissolved around him and turned to mist. He stood there for a moment with a blank. His whole world was lost in a moments. "I'm sorry guys..." He finally catches a deep breath, his eyes begin to glow orange this time.

"I know you can hear me Grandfather. We held up on our end."

"I'll transport you in a moment." While he tried to stay calm, he feels a slight brush against his hand. Looking down, he sees Cerberus pressing his head against his hand. "I was beginning to wonder where you were big guy." Fenrir looked into the Hounds eyes and smile softly. "Well, at least I still have some company."

A Golden portal begins to form in front of the two companions. Cerberus was eager and looked up at Fenrir for approval. "Let's go big guy. We've still got a long way to go." Cerberus barks then runs into the portal.
