"Hahaha, don't make me laugh. Whoever I defend is my business, not yours.
I am not insane; it's you who is insane. Why did you accept this marriage offer when you knew I never liked you, not even once? Our families forced us to get married, and you seduced me with your body so we would have to continue living in this hell together.
I slapped you because you dared to mock her in front of me. Remember this, Lea—you are not as significant as Nia in my heart, so I can throw you away whenever I want."
Hugo was laughing, but no laughter escaped from his mouth at all. There was no wave in Hugo's eyes, and he spoke coldly to Lea.
Lea's memory came into my mind, and now I knew why Hugo said that Lea seduced him with her body.
Lea can see the red strings that connect people with their pair. Hugo and Lea are destined, so Lea's body reacts when she is near Hugo.
It was not Lea's fault, but Hugo blamed her for something she never did.
There is a curse that attacks those who can see the red strings of destiny. People who can see the red strings are called The Connector.
The Connector will find it hard to meet their Soulmate, and not many Connectors ever find them.
Some Connectors spend their entire lives alone. Some marry someone who is not their Soulmate.
If a Connector marries someone other than their Soulmate, their marriage will be difficult and full of problems.
Some Connectors are content to live without ever meeting their Soulmate. When a Connector meets their Soulmate, the Soulmate never loves the Connector at first.
The Soulmate always falls in love with someone else. If the Connector can endure this pain and wait, one day the Soulmate may look back and realize their mistake.
But if the Connector can't face these obstacles and their Soulmate never loves them back, they will live alone forever.
No Connector can find another match once they've met their Soulmate. They can only be with someone else after the Soulmate dies.
If the Connector is reborn, they won't be bound by these rules.
The Connector is also free from these rules when another soul occupies their body and the original Connector's soul dies.
Someone from another world is free from these rules because Connectors don't exist in their world. It's a curse a Connector must bear.
A memory about Connectors came to my mind when I heard Hugo say that Lea used her body to seduce him.
I never knew Lea had another role besides being an actress. A Connector is extraordinary and rare. They can also cut red strings when requested.
But a Connector can't cut their own string. They can also find someone's Soulmate easily.
They can see a couple's compatibility without a detector machine.
They can read someone's emotions from aura colors. A Connector has other skills too.
A Gifter can see red strings but has no other abilities.
A Breaker can feel red strings and cut them, even if they can't see them.
A Connector is distinct from a regular human.
Lea could get all the attention she wanted if she revealed she was a Connector, but she chose not to. She's a very low-key girl.
Being a Connector isn't a gift for Lea; she sees it as a curse.
Hugo hated Alpha-Omega connections but still fell in love with an Omega like Nia.
It contradicts his hatred for second-gender bonds.
A cold-hearted person like Hugo isn't worth Lea's love.
"You should thank me for letting you climb into my bed because of your body.
You should thank me for accepting you as my Omega.
Do you know how hard it is for an Omega to find a good Alpha?
You should thank me for being willing to be an Alpha for someone as annoying as you,"
Hugo sneered.
"Behave better in the future, and maybe someday I'll touch you and pamper you as my Omega. But never think you can have my heart, because no matter what you do, my heart belongs to Nia.
I'll never give you false hope that I'll ever look back at you."
Hugo walked away, leaving Lea behind as she cried, tears falling from her eyes.
(The End Of The Recorder)
"Now, do you think I'm a liar? I have proof of what you said about me being annoying. And now you want me to answer you?
What do you really want, Mr. Redrich?" I asked with an expressionless face.
Hugo was stunned by the recorder. He never imagined Lea would have such evidence.
He didn't know what to do, or why his heart felt so uneasy. Something deep inside told him he'd made a huge mistake.
But he didn't know what it was.
Hugo grasped Elena's arm tightly, his eyes fiercer than before and his voice colder.
"Why do you have that recording? Why did you record our conversation? Are you a spy?" Hugo was worried Lea was spying on his family.
"Hahaha," I laughed, but my eyes weren't laughing.
"Why are you laughing? This isn't funny. Answer me or I'll break your arms," Hugo grasped my arms tightly, leaving red marks on my skin, but he didn't care.
It hurt, but my expression remained as calm as a still river. Hugo is rough with Lea but gentle with Nia.
"I never imagined someone like you cared about family. You're not a good husband, but at least you're a devoted son.
I'll praise you for that. You're not as much of a scumbag as I thought, even if you're still not a good husband.
I laughed because you're funny.
What benefit would I gain by spying on your family? Your sister Hera isn't a fool—no pest escapes her notice."
I smiled, but the smile didn't reach my eyes. Before Hugo could reply, I spoke again.
"I carry a recorder everywhere because I never know when someone will betray me or stab me in the back.
You never know who might betray you. Even your family can stab you when you let your guard down," I said with a dim expression before returning to my blank stare.
Hugo saw Lea's sad expression and felt his heart ache. He didn't know why she looked like that.
"I know you hate me, and I want to tell you now—I don't love you anymore.
You say you hate Alpha-Omega bonds, but you still love an Omega.
That means you don't hate the bond—you hate me as your Omega. That's why you said those cruel things to me," I said, brushing his hand away.
I pushed Hugo away, and it wasn't as hard as I expected. Omegas are supposed to be weak, but Lea is strong.
Lea is truly powerful, not just a rumor. She can fight an Alpha if she wants to, but she always acted weak around Hugo.
I won't do what Lea did, because Lea and I no longer need a man.
"You don't need me here. Go meet your beloved as much as you want, Mr. Redrich. I won't get in your way."
I walked away without waiting for Hugo's response.
