Faye was still sound asleep, but even in his sleep, he had a firm grip on her, and as soon as the space between them widened, he domineeringly pulled her back into his arms.
"...Don't go..." He mumbled as if in a dream.
Tessa Caldwell didn't hear clearly who he was calling out to; she only caught the last two words. She frowned, focused on listening, then she heard Faye say, "Don't leave me again!"
"Again?" That means she had already left... And now he was mistaking her for the person who left, asking her not to leave him again...
Tessa's little face instantly fell.
Holding her yet telling another woman not to leave him, what was that supposed to mean!
She wanted to pry his hands off and get out of bed, ignoring him, but as soon as she touched him, she found his hand was burning hot. Remembering how his body was scalding as it held hers, that feverish breath, and the earlier feeble murmurs...
Tessa felt something was wrong.
