The silence spilling out from the cave was met by hundreds of wild beasts waiting a single step before the entrance. Their eyes were bloodshot, saliva dripped from jaws bearing razor-sharp teeth, and their bodies were poised to lunge at any given moment. The beasts, who under normal circumstances would have torn each other to shreds, had their eyes locked on the interior of the cave and seemed to care for absolutely nothing else.
They managed to stand in the same place without regard for the disparity in their strength; the precious resource a mere few steps away had utterly bewitched them. Some lunged forward to lap up the blood that managed to reach the cave's entrance, only to be thwarted by an invisible barrier, yet they refused to abandon their attempts. They coveted the radiant crimson liquid as if they were starved for a single drop of water in the wasteland.
