Ding dong, ding dong...
Bertha Swift, with her hair half-dry, was still hesitating when suddenly the doorbell rang outside, startling her out of her daze. She was unsure whether to answer the door, but then Maria White poked her head out of the bathroom, "Bertha, who's ringing the doorbell?"
"I'll go check." Last time Bertha had already explained to Maria that there was nothing between her and Adam Piers. If Maria saw Adam coming to her door now, Bertha could just imagine the awkwardness. She quickly replied and went to open the door.
At the door, she thought for a moment and changed her slippers before opening it. Sure enough, it was the same man from before.
At this point, Maria's voice sounded again from inside, "Bertha, who is it?"
"Ah, wrong door. I'm going out for a walk and will be back soon." Bertha fibbed to Maria and squeezed out the door.
As soon as she stepped out and faced Adam Piers, Bertha's expression fell, "Why haven't you left yet?"
