Chapter 46 - An ever black night

At the blinking blue light, Mongrel looked into the open expanse of the galaxy. The areas that appeared light and dark, and the turbulent gas storms suspended in time as they flung against one another before finally, he moved his head to the ships behind him. He knew the jump would be perilous.

The door wide open, the two figures on the edge, Mongrel and Seth stood at the edge of the ledge at the precipice of the galaxy before them.

"Have you marked the spot on the map?" asked Seth, his feet inching closer to going over the edge into the void. Needing to say something but not wanting to admit to himself how scared he was.

"Yes, have ya?" "Yes"

"Be careful, Seth"

"Same to you, Mongrel. See you on the other side" Seth said as he took one final look and leaped from the ship. He aimed his body as best as he could, his body rigid as he aimed it like a torpedo.

The spot looked like the rest of space, but within were two men, they slid floating thorugh space.

Their ship growing distant as they arrived at the Druin ship's that were still in hot pursute of their now empty ship.

The recording of the elder having stopped playing as they drifted through space, the armada of ships sailed as fast as they could to catch the now dead ship.

The two held their breaths and glided using thrusters only to avoid a head on collision as they flew through the ships.

A ship was closing in on Seth's head as he flew directly towards it. He could see the ship and could not avoid it without his thrusters. As he waited for the last possible second to use the thrusters he saw the ship was far too close for his liking. He was almost sure he could reach out a hand and touch the sleek body of the ship.

His thrusters whirling to life as he pushed away from the ship and slid across the shinny ship's hull.

His thrusters spluttering and spraying as he glided across the surface a arms length away.

The ship flew away from Seth, the silence of the galaxy floating between the two, the ship floating further and further away the ships gleamed with the light of nearby star.

The ship moved quietly along with Seth staring at the ship hoping he was not noticed as the ship moved further away.

Seth held his breath waiting and praying to any deity he could imagine.

The ship in his vision slowed and lit up as it slowly turned around.

"Fuck" Seth muttered as he put his thursters in full blast trying to get as far away as possible before the ship could fully locate him.

His thrusters ran at full blast, and soon in his helmet a warning came in front of him, warning he was running out of fuel.

He held on as long as possible, putting as much distance between him and the ship as he could, trying to reach his ship before the Druin ship reached him.

The thrusters running out he could see the warning increasing in its fervor as it told him how low he was on fuel. The fuel was running out much faster then Seth was wanting as he was not nearly close enough to the ship to be able to pull it into the fray.

The ship was not nearly close enough to make it, he knew. As one final ditch effort Seth had to consider if he would use the momentum to carry him to the ship or change his trajectory to allow Mongrel to make it to the ship safely and the ship may pass him by without knowing where he would be.

He may be able to hide unnoticed in the darkness of space with the ship moving past him.

He was not sure what he was going to do and the fuel was only running out faster and faster. He was already running on empty, using the absolute last bit of fuel.

With the last fuel exhausted, the alarms blaring in his ears and eyes, he knew he no longer had a choice, he would have to do it. He shifted his body and moved to the side, his body rocketing towards the side away from the ship he was making a run for.

"I hope you come for me" Seth said to himself, not daring to turn on the comms lest Mongrel and the ship be exposed.

He saw his ship and the hope he had to live move away from him. He had no choice; he could not allow Mongrel to die with him.

He saw the ship that was following him now cutting through the space he occupied until only a moment ago, the sharpness of the vessel looking like it could cut the fabric of space as it charged, following his old trajectory.
