Chapter 363 Scavenging!
Flashback- West Region
Done with their work for the day as night has come, hold up in a rundown closet sized space, Mondo and Conara are up conversing.
Lighting the interior with bulb bugs in a jar, gazing at Mondo with concerned eyes, Conara says silently, Mondo did you really think this through? If you stop saling what Kensco's men want you to sell, they will kill you. Do you really want to die right now?
In a corner on the right side of the room, Mondo responds, to be honest Conara I've grown numb to the notion of death. I'm just sick and tired of being hungry all the time.
Glancing down as she comments back, Conara voices, I get it. You don't think I'm tired of this too. But it's just how it is Mondo, this is our life. So stop talking about taking out Kensco...I'm sorry Mondo.
Quick with a reply as he rises to his feet, Mondo states in a disappointmented tone, I'm sorry too...sorry that you have given up.
Walking away as he heads for the exit, sadden as her head is dropped, Conara conveys, where are you going? We can't leave this space.
Opening the door as he doesn't even turn back to the girl, Mondo says, out. Out to scavenge for food and to take down the bastard that has done this to us and these towns people. If you want to come and join me, stand up now before I leave this prison forever.
Hearing no movement as Conara is quiet, not moving from her seated position as tears roll down her cheeks.
Facing forward as he goes out into the night, Mondo says, goodbye Conara. Even if you think it's suicide, I have to be the change for this place.
And with that statement the door closes.
