Chapter 548 - Midterms.

Jay was on a recruitment tour since both of his diplomats were busy they had to entrust some of them to Jay.

And Jay at first tried to talk things out with them. Some understood and joined right away, some had circumstances which unable them to participate and some were against the action. Like the draedons. A group of sentient automatons. Who have gained sentience and stay away from humans.

AND their leader a bronze statue named Talos. Jay had to pummel him until he submit.

AND after going on a tour he returned to the capital and his dormitory which in the span of a few weeks had become booby trapped once again.

But with cameras.

Plush camera, audio recorders, hidden cameras, patrolling drones, sentient animal recorders. And someone blatantly kept a video recorder on a tripod and left it on.

Seeing this Jay spent the rest of the night with Verdansk and his irritating horoscope.

In the morning the first thing Jay did was head back to the deans office and when he did there was a blast from his own room. And all the cameras and hidden cameras became disabled along with his room.

After investigation. It turned kht that there was a hidden bomb whose settings were off put by and days. It seems it was set up hastily and incorrectly.

Before no one batted an eye but now everyone did as there were news headline the next day that. There was an attack on the Hero of the Slave Island. An assassination plot a political controversy.

AND because of this Jay became a famous headline for two days until something else caught their eye and Wilcoxin was conflicted on what to do.

Jay's attendance was very poor. Which was offset by his missions he was being sent to. During midterms he passed other subjects except Magi-tech.

Jay was spending much of his time outside than inside. And because of that Wilcoxin questioned Phoenix who came to his alma mater for some tasks.

Wilcoxin :

Lord Phoenix, why have you sent Jay to this institute. He is outside more than inside. His grades are slipping because he can't study.

And whenever he is here he causes a commotion.

If he's not going to come to classes then what's the point of him staying here.

And why does he take other students with him to his missions. If something g happens to them what am I supposed to answer.

Phoenix :

My purpose for recommending him to stay here was simple.

To learn about his surroundings and make new allies.

And get some idea about the societal structure which is different than outside.

But most importantly because I knew you were here. I had expectations that by showing him you can influence him in a better direction.

Wilcox in :

My purpose is to lead students to the right path. But if the student doesn't cooperate how will I lead him. We were keeping watch on him for hours as you said.

And he behaves as a student should but there is still a disparity between students and him. For neither he is from the outside he is from another world.

Phoenix :

He told me he was a university student before he was pushed into the lands. His path was filled with lots of bloodshed and tough decisions. And to take such

It looks good in stories and we are used to it but he is not leaving family all alone and fighting God's takes a lot of guts.

Wilcoxin :

There's not much I can do in his case. But there are rules I have to enforce in this academy. And he's a walking time bomb.

The midterms will begin in a few days. And if he cannot pass he has to face consequences. And to maintain this academy prestige. It will be either suspension or expulsion.

Be it a war or the end of the world

Phoenix :

I've known your for many years and also you are not going to budge on your decision. I'll help him out.

Soon after that Phoenix left the office. He knew that Wilcox in was trying to get in his way.

Phoenix searched for Jay and found his scratching his head on Magi-tech classes he had missed.

But besides him were his friends Rena and Ray helping him to get through the concept. In combat practice he takes on foes with little to no effort. Even taking many restrictions on himself.

His best one was fightjng without using magic, both of his arms and legs, no grappling, and no headbutting. While staying in one circle.

Hr has won that challenge as well. While the other was using a fully fortified armor as well as magic and martial arts.

So when his enemy charged at him. He jumped high in the air when his enemy was in the circle and he used his back to stomp his down on the ground. And the impact was large enough to incapacitate him.

He had found a loophole he just needed to execute it well enough.

Phoenix went into Jay's room and as he opened the door. The door came in his hand. The other side of the door was burned. He saw his room and it had been turned into adhes all the furniture burned to cinders. As well as the fragments of a cameras. For spying on him. The area was wet it seemed recently the fire was here was doused out by a water mage.

He found him in the cafeteria eating alongside Rena, Ray and Fay. It seems that he has found himself a group. Solely centered around him. Helping him with studying.

Rena :

No the citcuits and inscriptions doesn't go this way. It violates the fifth law of Randz law of mana flow circuitry.

Jay :

What about this way. If I do this then I will break the third law.

Fay :

By bypassing this, we can avoid the third law consequences. Just rewrite the formula this way.

Ray :

So where were you gone this time. We'll seeing your backlog. You might as well ended up dead.

Rena :

If you can't help might as well piss off from here.

Ray :

Nah, hey look you cant even solve this one. I'll give you the ultimate method to pass this one as a favor.

Consider this an honor.

Jay :

Oh, nice to conduct business with you.

Ray passed a chit to Jay under the table. Jay opened the chit and two words were write on it.

Got you.

Jay took the chit and threw it at Ray while he laughed very hard. Seeing this Phoenix who was going to help Jay decided to go back instead.

Jay had spent the entire night cramming and solving as many questions as possible. As he spent half an hour scouring the skill tree for good upgrades.

AND he actually got some which increased his comprehensive abilities and that saved him some time and he crammed more and more before the big day finally arrived.

He gave the exam. He had to sit in the lecture hall at the designated seat for 3 straight hours and solve the question within the given time frame. Jay took a deep breath as the questions appeared on the screen.

Q1:

If a mana circuit which is carrying the supply of 10 mana is currently overloaded with 30 mana then what measures would you take to avoid overloading of the machine as well as how will you induce resistance in the circuit which will handle both the electric current and mana flow.

Q2 :

Write a set of glyphs, formulas or runic instructions which will not collide with the other power sources such as fuels or electricity.

Q3:

How will you introduce safely measures in a machine running on both formulas, sigils and runic inscription.

Q4:

A scientist inscribed the following runes on a machine to customize the working of an autocepter which caused to go out of date. So what will you do to make the machine perform self calibration.

Jay :

Whats an autocepter.

AND many more questions. Jay tried to answer as many as possible before he had to turn it in. For some students the papers were a breeze of fresh air. And for some it was despair.

Jay's answer first reached Wilcoxin and before checking Wilcoxin vowed to himself to remain unbiased and check the paper fairly. He put forth his pride as a magi tech expert and a teacher himself.

The Ai had already concluded but Wilcoxin decided to scrutinize it anyway. He checked his answers. Some answers were incorrect but marks could still be spared.

Some were so wrong Wilcoxin started to question his life choices. Some were absolutely brilliant with a proper and structured line of thinking. Some were backward but offered a new perspective.

Fully grading the paper Wilcoxin took a deep breath and sighed as he had to declare him borderline pass.

One part of him was sad that he couldn't throw him out. And one part was relieved that he hung on.

This paper was then forwarded to Phoenix. Who had requested since he was worried about him and seeing he had passed made him take a breath of relief.

With this the Wilcoxin Institute's midterms were over.
