Chapter 17 - Who said I don’t love you?

The moment they stepped onto the restaurant's top terrace, Alex forgot entirely how to keep her expression neutral.

The whole space had been arranged for exactly one table — hers, apparently, surrounded by flowering vines and strings of lights that turned the terrace into something closer to a dream than a dinner reservation. Candles lined the floor in a soft, wandering path, and a bouquet large enough to require both arms sat waiting at her seat.

It was, without question, the first surprise like this anyone had ever gone to this much trouble to arrange for her. Which made sense, she supposed — it was also the first real date she'd ever been on. She hadn't expected the two facts to hit at the same time, quite this hard.
