On the other side of the apartment, Alex — who'd meant to go to bed an hour ago — was curled up with Fidelia watching an action film loaded with exactly the kind of chaos she loved, the reason she'd fallen for Ethan's movies in the first place. Fidelia tolerated it mostly for the costume drama subplot buried somewhere inside the explosions, occasionally pausing the movie entirely to argue about which era the costumes were actually supposed to represent. They were both fully absorbed when Fidelia's phone rang.
Fidelia glanced at the screen and smiled before turning it toward Alex, who grinned back just as wide. "Looks like I'm finally getting a brother-in-law," Alex said, nudging her toward the door. "Go on, answer it."
Fidelia retreated to her room before picking up. "Hello, Mr. Collin."
