Alan Porter had known his wife would eventually ruin things. Thinking it over, though, he realized how foolish he'd been to imagine the Jensens knew nothing of the scandal surrounding Aria and Sheila — one of their own artists had been involved, after all. And even if they'd somehow missed it, they'd certainly have investigated; Aria was supposedly meant to become their son's wife. Since Alex had declared at a press conference that she was his daughter, they'd already known about her too.
Lydia kept up the pretense of ignorance regarding the scandal. She had a reputation for staying out of the family's business affairs, so people often dismissed her as a mere housewife, good for nothing but parties and shopping.
"Madam Porter, whatever did you do to earn such a nickname? It must be something shameful. I won't have my son saddled with a mother-in-law of poor reputation. And what of this scandal involving your daughter?"
