Alan studied the pleased expression on Alex's face and smiled with satisfaction. He believed his bait was more than enough to reel her in whenever he pleased — shares in a company like Priceless were, after all, genuinely useful.
In truth, he had nothing to lose in this deal. The shares in her hands were worthless now that the company was struggling; if anything, holding them meant she'd be liable for part of the company's debts should things go further south. And even once he'd restored Priceless to its former prestige, he'd have lost next to nothing, because having a Jensen heir's wife as a daughter on the board would hand him far more power. Whatever little money it cost him meant nothing by comparison. He'd run the calculation a dozen times over, and every version of it ended with him ahead.
