Alan was livid when he stormed out of the Jensen estate — livid enough to lose his head entirely. Gradually the humiliation and the shame of his defeat combined into something that pierced straight through him. If he didn't make Alex pay for all this, he might well go insane. Fueling his fury further was the way the Jensens had treated him. Powerful family or not, he couldn't let them make a fool of him like that. In all his years of scheming and clawing his way up, he'd never once been outmaneuvered so completely, and by his own discarded daughter no less.
He'd realized Alex and Eliott already knew each other, that she'd surely made up her mind about him long before he ever reached out. He couldn't let her off so easily; they'd swindled him, stripped him of his fifteen percent and his only remaining income. If he didn't make them pay, he feared his anger would kill him.
