Ethan was by far the calmest person in the room.
While James spoke as though he had some kind of claim over Alex, Ethan simply watched him, his expression almost indifferent. Men like James didn't intimidate him. He had dealt with people far more dangerous, far more intelligent, and certainly far more powerful.
If he was still sitting there listening to this nonsense, it was only because of Alex. She had called James a friend. Not an acquaintance, not a business partner, a friend. And Ethan knew how few people Alex gave that title to.
But when he looked at her now, he saw her fingers tightening against the edge of the table, her breathing becoming uneven. The anger in her eyes was beginning to mix with something far more painful, betrayal. That was when Ethan finally spoke.
