Chapter 34 - The Heart of the Forest and uses or OL

Author Note:

I'm still recovering from being sick, but the good news is the update should be on track. Thank you so much for your continued patience

After parting ways with the captain, Erza and I checked the location of our next commission. To our surprise, the commissioner wasn't out in the wilds but within a nearby town—just slightly beyond the cliffs where we had fought the bandits.

We entered the town, and the streets were modest but peaceful. After asking around, we found the commissioner's location easily. It turned out to be a quiet shop with hanging herbs and glass vials lined on every shelf. The scent of magic and medicine filled the air.

Inside was an old man with deep wrinkles, a long white beard, and hands stained with years of alchemy. A potion maker.

"We're from Fairy Tail. Here for the monster hunt request," I said.

He nodded, eyes twinkling. "You're younger than I imagined. Come, let me show you."

He handed us a hand-drawn sketch and notes. The target was a Trent.

Erza blinked. "A tree? Should be easy."

The old man shook his head. "Not just any tree. This one is a magical beast. It walks. Hides. You won't find it unless it wants to be found. I only need one heart, but that alone is no easy task."

We nodded, took the commission, and left the town quickly.

Mounting the golden eagle, we took to the skies once more, flying toward the forest marked on the map. After circling for a bit, I summoned my wolves to scout the area below. Erza and I stayed airborne, scanning from above.

"Should we fight it together or one-on-one?" I asked.

"Let me see it first," Erza replied.

About ten minutes later, I felt one of my wolves send a signal.

"Got something," I said, guiding the eagle down.

As we landed, I gestured grandly. "Ladies first."

Erza rolled her eyes with a small smile. "Thank you."

She dashed ahead.

The Trent stood tall—massive and ancient, its bark like armor, glowing faintly with magic. Its limbs moved like slow, creaking machines.

Erza charged and slashed at its extended arm.

The blade bounced off.

"What?" she exclaimed.

The Trent roared and swung back. Erza braced herself, but before the blow landed, one of my Wind Wolves jumped in front and took the hit.

It disappeared in a puff of smoke.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

She nodded. "Thanks. That was close."

We both turned back to the Trent—only to see the wound Erza had inflicted… already healed.

"It's regenerating," I muttered. "We'll fight it together."

I summoned the Iron Golem.

It stepped forward with a metallic thud and punched the Trent with full force.

The Trent's arm flew off.

It roared again—then calmly picked up its severed limb… and reattached it.

Erza and I stared in shock.

"Its vitality is insane," she said.

"Iron Golem, restrain it."

The golem moved in and locked the Trent in a bear hug.

"It's all yours," I told Erza.

Erza didn't hesitate. She began slashing at its head repeatedly. Chips of bark flew everywhere.

Then—barking.

Distant howls echoed.

I turned.

Four more Trents had emerged from the forest, rushing toward us.

"Seriously?" I muttered.

But I didn't panic.

"Time to cause a forest fire."

I summoned every Salamander I had.

The Trents paused, confused.

"Fire."

The Salamanders responded instantly, launching waves of flame. The heat warped the air. The wooden monsters tried to retreat, but I summoned the Spirit Fox.

"Illusion: Reverse Path."

The Trents turned around… and charged straight back into the fire.

The battle was over in minutes.

Erza, meanwhile, had finally decapitated her Trent. She wiped her blade clean and turned to me.

"You're strong," she said, her eyes firm. "But I'll catch up."

I smiled. "I know you will."

With all five Trents down, I checked the loot cards.

Five total.

'so assistance counts,'I murmured.

And it did.

First, I turned one into a summon.

The result: B-Rank.

"Nice."

Then I checked the new card options.

——————————————————————————————————

Loot Card Options:

Summon this monster

Obtain a random skill from the monster

Sacrifice card for 10,000 MP Lucky Draw

Absorb its Luck Origin

Chance to unlock Ability/Talent +0.5

——————————————————————————————————

"Wait... +0.5?"

then a masseage appeared in my mind

I paused and calculated.

If X is my Luck and N is Origin Luck, then effective luck = X × (1 + N).

And i also Gain a permenant Luck value

Meaning, every use of Origin Luck leaves behind 10% of its value.

Use a 10 → gain +1 to permanent Origin Luck.

I grinned.

"That's huge."

I selected for me to use Origin Luck.

Then Option 5.

A notification appeared:

—————————————————————————

Tier: 4

Ability: Regeneration (Magic)

Type: Ability (Active)

Amount of Use: 1

Description: Allows the user to heal wounds and injuries by channeling magic. At its maximum potential, this ability can even reattach broken limbs.

Note: This is an innate ability and cannot be leveled up.

—————————————————————————

I frowned. "Can't level it up? That's... unfortunate."

Still, it was useful.

"Erza! Come here for a second."

She was extracting the Trent heart nearby.

She jogged over. "What is it?"

I handed her a glowing green card.

She blinked. "What's this?"

"Try to crush it."

She squeezed. Nothing happened.

But I got a prompt in my mind:

[Give]

[YES/NO]

I selected YES.

Suddenly, Erza exerted strength. The card shattered and its glow merged into her body.

She gasped. "I… got something. I know what it is now."

Before I could ask, she drew a blade and sliced her palm.

Blood ran.

Then in a moment—nothing. No pain. No scar. Just smooth skin.

She looked at her hand, stunned. "It healed instantly."

I nodded. "Regeneration using Magic."

She frowned. "I can't accept this."

"Don't worry."

"You always give. I can't just take."

"We're a team," I said softly. "You're the frontline. I'm the range/support. I don't want my friends getting hurt or having scars… especially if that friend is you."

Her eyes widened. A blush crept across her cheeks. She looked away.

"Thank you."

I smiled and turned back to the remaining cards.

I converted two more into summons.

Then I tested my luck on one more.

It shattered into nothing.

I sighed.

"You win some, you lose some."

We finished extracting the remaining Trent hearts. Then we returned to the old potion maker and offered him one heart.

——————————————————————————————————

He inspected it carefully. "Perfect. Thank you."

"We have four more," I said. "Willing to buy?"

He looked at us, calculating. "I'll buy all at full price."

Erza and I exchanged stunned looks.

With one mission, we'd just made half a million Jewels.

We shook hands, accepted the payment, and left the shop with heavy coin pouches.

"One mission left," I said, grinning.

"Let's finish strong," Erza replied.

We mounted the eagle.

And took to the skies once more.
