Chapter 10 - City of Sand

The carriage stopped right in front of the gates of Adobis. A portcullis sat in front of them. The driver spoke with a guard standing out front and the explained who Lore was. "Knight General Koba has been expecting you. He lives in the house at the very back of town in a large manor. Open the gatw!" The guard hollered up, and from the top of the ramparts you could hear an echo of "Open the gate!"

The rattling of chains could he heard as the portcullis slowly moved its way open. The carriage driver snapped the reigns to stir the horses into moving, and made his way down the road. Lore peered outside as saw buildings of red clay pass him by. The road were kept clean, and had well maintained cobble the whole way. Many people were walking the streets of Adobis. The sun wasn't visible, and only lanterns illuminated the streets adding a beautiful glow to all the homes. A bit later the carriage arrived in front of a large home. Standing outside the door was a butler and a maid who seemed to be waiting for them. After the carriage stopped, Lore stepped out of the carriage and stretched his arms out wide.

"Welcome Sir Lore to the humble abode of Knight Lord Koba. They have been expecting you. Please follow me for introductions to the Master, and then we'll get you settled. It's a pleasure to meet you, I am the head butler, and my name is Ovi. This is our head maid Lea." Ovi said with a smile and bowed to Lore; directing him to the door. Lore followed Ovi inside, and looked around in amazement. The outside of the building looked similar to the rest of the homes, but after Lore entered he was shocked. Immediately when you walked in there was a huge chandelier, and a giant staircase sitting behind it.on either side of the main hall sat two wooden doors. Art hung from all the walls, and figurines and statues were scattered intermittently. From the top floor a door could be heard opening, and Lore looked up guessing it was General Koba. All of a sudden Lore felt as if gravity had been exponentially increased. He fell to his knees and started to sweat. Lord Koba's magical presence was suffocating Lore, and all he did was enter the room. Koba descended the stairs and stood himself in front of Lore. "Kid, why ate you on your knees? I'm not interested in you like that." A huge grin appeared on Koba's serious face as he touched Lore on the shoulder. "Anyway let's get you settled in, and tomorrow we can talk about your duties and the expectations I have for you Fledgling. If you really want to become a squire, then be ready for the grueling time you spend with me because this won't be easy. Now go clean up, and I'll have Ovi prepare some food for you." Koba turned and left waving his hand for Ovi to start prep, and Lea to take Lore to his room. Lore followed Lea upstairs to his room, and when he entered he was astounded to see a plush room with with a big bed, and a huge set of windows looking over the city.

Before Lea departed she said "There are fresh clothes in that cabinet, and put your old clothes over the chair and someone will wash it. Dinner will be ready in 20 minutes, so please bathe and get dressed." Lea said all this and bowed before taking her leave.

Lore stared out the window for a couple minutes before he stripped down and went to the bathroom. Lore approached the bath wondering where he'd get the water from, but steaming water was already inside. He slid himself into the bath and felt his stress and worry melt away. Lore closed his eyes for a little while and got lost in thought. "General Koba was so strong. I felt like i was being crushed by just his magic energy. I'm going to surpass him one day, and I'll stand at the very top". Lore thought about this as he began cleaning himself, scrubbing the stress and grime away. Once Lore was done he went back to his room and found an outfit laying out for him. The shirt was a wine red that hugged his body, and black dress pants to match. Once Lore was dressed, he left his room and started wandering around. He was looking for the dining hall because he was starting. The smell of food wafted over to Lore, and he followed that smell until he found the the dining hall which had numerous different plates of food. General Koba sat in a relaxed manner enjoying his food. "Hello Lore".
