Chapter 10 - The first battle

As Keith walked to work that morning his mind couldn't help but be deep in thought, Cole hadn't come back yesterday, even though it had helped give him time to train without having to worry about getting excuses, he couldn't help but be worried Cole's whereabouts. Keith's thoughts were racing where could Cole be and what could have happened, he normally wouldn't be so worried this soon but that voicemail scared him.

"Kid, calm down something will come up, you were barely able to concentrate yesterday," Damian said from Keith's mind.

"Are you sure? " Keith said needing some reassurance.

"Don't worry,"

"Okay," Keith said as he walked towards the doors of Crestone Limited, he took a deep breath and entered.

"Woah! It's 7:20, you're in early today, really early," Gladice said.

"I just thought I should make a change, you know, birthday resolutions," Keith said, ever since he had gotten heightened senses he woke up two seconds before his alarm went off.

"It's supposed to be New Year's resolutions, Mr. Male model, " she said sarcastically.

"What?" Keith said, his mind had been so preoccupied lately that he had forgotten about the change in his appearance.

"Seriously, look at you, you look like a whole new person," Gladice said.

"Oh!" Keith said remembering.

"That..... that's just a..... uhhhh....." Keith said struggling to find a believable excuse, "I..... got a birthday makeover, my friend told me about this place and I decided why not," he said and laughed nervously afterward.

"Oh really, well, can you tell me the name of the place, I would love to look twenty years younger too," Gladice teased.

"No, you don't need that, you look just fine," Keith said walking to the clock-in machine.

"Oh you, well, I try," Gladice said smugly as she adjusted her hair.

Keith just smiled and walked towards the elevator.

Keith's day at work seemed like any other, he was still not interested in his job but something in the air seemed different, he couldn't quite tell what it was but it didn't feel right.

**********

"Time to test our new hero," a mysterious figure said placing its hand on what looked to be a blue orb.

*********

It was already time and Keith was ecstatic at the thought of leaving for a lunch break, anything to get away from his desk, as he stepped out the building Damian said, "So the only time we are gonna have to train is weekends,"

"Probably, there is nothing I can do,"

"You can quit, you seem to hate the place anyway,"

"I don't hate it, I just lost appeal in the job," Keith said, "but I can't just quit, I need money to survive,"

"Okay, just putting the suggestion out there." Damian said.

As Keith walked through an empty street and past a large alleyway, he reflexively ducked, at that moment an axe flew right above his head, but it didn't look like any normal axe, it's handle was made out of a black hard metal and it's blade was a bit damaged and had a red to black ombre, he could just tell that a slice from that thing would burn.

"What in the world was that," Keith thought as he looked into the alleyway seeing nothing but empty space, but as he looked closer he could see a ripple form in the atmosphere, growing and growing to form a huge blue portal.

Out of the portal stepped what looked to be a six foot black skeleton, wearing a black helmet with a red gem at its crown, shoulder caps with a red to black ombre and a brown tunic, three more skeletons stepped out of the portal before it closed, they all looked like the first one except for the fact that they held swords with a red to black ombre on their blade and their helmets didn't have any gem.

"They're here already!" Damian said.

"It's okay Damian, I think I can handle them," Keith said as he stood up, at that moment the first skeleton to step out of the portal lifted its hand forward, the axe that had been thrown floated up from the ground and was coming back towards Keith. He created a force field around himself that blocked the axe, as it fell to the ground the skeleton let out a loud scratchy shriek that made Keith's force field start to vibrate and suddenly burst.

"How!" Keith exclaimed taken aback a bit by what had just happened.

"You have just learnt how to use your power, it isn't strong enough to handle that shriek," Damian explained, "Okay you need to think about this and find a strategy but don't spend to much time or else you may probably die,"

"Thanks for the reassurance," Keith replied sarcastically. The skeletons started charging at him.

Okay, he thought, out of these skeletons, the one with the gem is the most unique maybe it's the leader, so I may have to take it out first, but be careful since it can disrupt my force field.

He quickly lowered and tried grabbing the axe on the floor but as soon as he touched it his hand got burnt, okay, note to self, avoid touching the skeletons' weapons, he thought, he ran forward and formed two force fields on his arms and started punching at the skeletons, his punches were sloppy and wouldn't have done much damage if it weren't for his enhanced strength, he managed to punch one of the skeletons in the ribcage causing it to fall backwards. Two other skeletons came up to Keith and swung their swords artaight at him, he merged the two force fields in his hands to create a bigger shield to block the swords, just then the head skeleton shrieked again and the force field burst, the two skeletons slashed again and cut across his chest, "Arghhhhh," he screamed as the blades burnt his skin open, he rolled back, got up and charged again, this time he jumped up and landed straight onto the head skeleton and punched it in the skull causing it to break, he then quickly got up, created force fields on his hands again and charged for the remaining skeletons, he used his heightened senses to dodge the slashes of their swords and punch them in the skull exploding the force fields on impact, he breathed heavily as they all lay on the ground around him with their skulls smashed.

Suddenly the skeletons, their weapons and their armor started to turn to dust and fly away, soon it was just Keith standing there alone.

"Wow, that was great, kid," Damian said floating out the back of Keith's head, "Though you could have been a little less sloppy, not bad,"

"I thought you said Antitor hated all humanity and would destroy everything, this wasn't an humanity killing army," Keith said ignoring Damian's snarkiness.

"Yeah, and it was directed at you specifically, he is probably trying to take you out, before the invasion"

"I guess that would make sinse but how did he find out about me,"

"He is a god, he can sense divine energy,"

"Oh, well that went somewhat well, at least we don't have to worry about clean up, and no one saw us," Keith said oblivious to the CCTV camera on the top of the building right across the alleyway.
