Chapter 43 - A Cat or A Dog?

The way to the club is mostly peaceful with some occasional whispers but they were immediately hushed when they saw Charlotte walking beside her.

They then enter a room and were greeted by 4 people arguing about something, but they immediately stop upon Charlotte entering, but this is only momentary though.

As soon as someone identified its her, he quickly just jumped at her and asked, "Hey Charlotte which is better? A cat or a dog?" He asked immediately.

"It's obviously a cat! Right Charlotte?"

"Nonsense! A dog is man's bestfriend! How can you reject a dog!?"

"Well I'm on the cat team just because."

The people arguing are Elijah, Joana, Kristin and Alex respectively.

"Well feel free to explore around." Charlotte said she joined the dog side of the argument.

Leslie was dumbfounded by what she was seeing. She thought it would be some kind of martial arts club, but it seems just a bunch of friend hanging out.

She then looked around the room and it seemed like any other club room, not that she's seen a lot of those but its still in the double digits.

The room has 2 bookshelves, one filled with novels and the other filled with comics, all from different genres, ranging from romcom and mystery, to magic and superheroes.

There's also a slightly opened cabinet, and she could partly peer into it. She could see board games like chess, scrabble, monopoly, and other games she doesn't quite know.

and on the higher shelf of the cabinet, she could see card games like Uno, Exploding Kitten, regular playing cards, and many more.

She also saw a tarot card set but before she could see the other ones she was called by Charlotte.

"Hey, Leslie right? Come join us!" Charlotte said as they just finished arguing with no winning side.

Charlotte then introduced her friends one by one;

"That one is Elijah Melton, he's our... Fiction guy." Charlotte paused.

"We're called a weeb if you will, basically I like anime, gaming and sports!" Elijah said proudly while thumping his chest.

"Riiiight, next is Alexander Winter, he likes science stuff." Charlotte then pointed to the guy who is reading on the sofa.

Alex is reading a book titled 'Post-Apocaliptic' as he waved towards Leslie lazily.

"And that one over there is Kristin Felines," Charlotte pointed to the girl who is scrolling through her phone. "Just don't get on her bad side," she whispered to Leslie.

Leslie just nodded and Charlotte said "Great!" with a smile.

"That one right there by the window is Joana Marie," Charlotte pointed to the girl by the window who is admiring the clouds and mountains.

"Then there's me, Charlotte Godvern," Charlotte finally introduced herself and Leslie's eyes got wide.

"Mind introducing yourself?" Charlotte asked.

"Oh, umm, I'm Leslie Florette, I'm a volunteer at the local rescue center." Leslie said.

"Well then Leslie, welcome to our club!"

...

Leslie subconsciously smiled as she remembered the time when she met them.

And while reminiscing in the past, she just realized that she doesn't know how to get to that lushed part of the forest.

She paused for a moment and quickly thought of Alex's mom, Algaia, and she went straight to his house.

After a few minutes later she arrived at Alex's house, knocked on the door and... Silence.

*Knock*

*Knock*

*SWOOSH*

Leslie knocked again and on the 3rd knock she was transported inside the house. Specifically the living room.

"Mrs. Winter?" She asked.

"Hello dear, what can I do for you?" Algaia said with tea and cookies at hand as she signaled Leslie to sit down.

Leslie took a moment before she sat down, and the teapot floated along with a teacup and poured tea in front of Leslie.

And a saucer with sugar cubes appeared out of thin air and settled on the table.

"So dear, why are you here? Aren't you gonna go with Alex?" Algaia asked.

"Uhh.. you see ma'am, that's... the problem, I wanted to stay at first but after thinking about it, I realized that It would be unfair to them to go alone while I stay here safe and sound..." Leslie's voice trailed out as she finished her sentence.

Algaia chuckled and said, "I know, there are a lot of chosen heroes who were also like you, I know its only a matter of time before you start feeling guilty, because you're a good girl."

Leslie just nodded, wanting to comment something but she couldn't for some reason.

Algaia spoke "So what can I help you with, dear?" She asked

Leslie gulped and said, "I was... Wondering, since magic is real, and according to Elijah, there are mental magic that affects a person psychologically."

Algaia was a bit taken aback by the sudden question but she didn't show it, because only one other person had asked her to do the same.

"Yes, there is such magic, but it comes with a cost."
