Chapter 49 - Of Course I Can

Joana went in Charlotte's room and applied the now yarrow paste on her bruises.

"Ow! Hey! that hurts!" Charlotte yelled, for some reason it hurts more than she expects

Grandma Crane then smacked her head, "Stop complaining, its suppose to hurt, what do you expect when you touch bruises!" She yelled back.

While Crane seemed apathetic towards Charlotte, Joana listened to her complain and rubbed the paste a little more gently. While she is applying the paste, she subconsciously uses her magic as a subtle glow that appears at the places where the paste is.

"Did you imbue the leaves with magic?" Crane asked.

"Huh?" Joana said with a confused look.

"I said, did you put magic on the leaves?" Crane asked again in an irritated tone.

"I don't know what you're talking about?" Joana said, even more confused.

"Sigh, look at her bruises with the paste, its glowing with healing magic," Crane then pointed at the bruises.

Although barely noticeable, in such a dimly lit room, the glow is almost like a beacon , not enough to light the room all at once but bright enough that one can see it with the naked eye in a dark room, like seeing a light at the end of a tunnel.

Charlotte looked at the glow and swear she could see the bruise heal because they are.

Charlotte could feel a warm sensation coursing through her body as the bruises heal, once Joana applied the paste on the bruise by her stomach, she looks like a disco ball but only 30 seconds later, the glowing stopped.

Charlotte doesn't feel pain anymore, and the bruises disappeared.

Crane watch the bruises heal and Joana stumbled as she just used her magic.

She doesn't know why she feels so weak after using magic, she didn't understand what Elijah said that day at the lake.

Even grandma Crane doesn't know why, she just assumed that's how Miracle Healers work. After all she isn't a magic wielder so she doesn't understand the concept of mana.

One thing of note though, Joana didn't feel as fatigue as the first 2 times she used magic where she just straight up collapsed, it may be because the bruises weren't as severe like that strange flu of Gale's sibling but nonetheless, she felt like its an improvement.

It truly is an improvement because every time she uses magic, her control on magic increases and so does her mana stored inside her.

"Go take a seat outside, I'll handle it from here," Crane said as she dismissed Joana.

Joana stumbled through the room as she used the walls to support herself, and once she is gone, grandma Crane checked up on Charlotte.

After double checking her she was told to stay for at least another hour to rest up as she did seemed fully heal, though she dismiss her from doing any duties for the remainder of the day.

She was instructed to return at first light tomorrow for another checking, but other than that, she's free to go.

She asked grandma Crane if she can actually excuse people from doing their duties and grandma Crane answered, "Of course I can, I can even make the Datu rest up for an entire moon's worth, of course he's too stubborn to listen to me so sometimes his situation gets worse instead of better." She said in an irritated tone.

Charlotte only nodded as she lay there in the wooden bed with leaves as sheets, and it's surprisingly comfortable.

Grandma Crane then left to check up on Hawk.

- Alex and the group -

Alex's group is on cleaning duty since their friend, Charlotte, fought with a Warrior and Kristin probably got the worst punishment according to the apprentices, lise cleaning, its exactly out it sounds like, she's task with picking lise on random people's head.

She tried to argue but was immediately shut down by Finch, who came to them after sending Charlotte and Hawk to the Healer's Hut.

They then spent the whole day doing nothing but chores. Cleaning weapons, dusting the bridges and platforms, and giving the elders a bath, which was surprisingly fun, for Leslie at least. She's also a volunteer to a local center for the elderly and loves helping them. Kristin and Alex then became their source of water since they both can do water magic.

The night then passed quickly due to their exhaustion and they are rudely awakened by sun light.

The apprentices are oddly excited today, mainly because tonight is "The Gathering" which is a meeting of all the tribes at a place The Great Oak, which is located at the center of the island.
