It was a sunny morning and the Tokyo streets were bustling with people. On the far north of the very same city sat a boy of twelve, lonely in an abandoned park.
He swung the swing gently, tear traces present on both sides of his face like he had been crying. Bruises too adorned his skin as the boy stared forward towards the high buildings.
The boy's name was Izuku Midoriya and he was quirkless.
Izuku had wanted to be a hero, the number one hero like All Might. He wanted to save the day like him, with a big smile on his face but he was quirkless and quirkless people didn't become heroes neither did they deserve it.
'Just if I had a quirk, I would've shown kaachan that I can be a hero too!'
Unknown to him, a small girl had been watching him all the while with a bitter smile on her face.
"Hello" a small unexpected voice reached his ears. It had been so sudden that he fell out of the swing, his thought process broken.
"Are you okay?" The same voice asked, a little worried.
Annoyed, Izuku looked up to face a girl, a few years younger than him with pink hair(?) and bright green eyes.
Realizing he had been staring, he quickly looked away, a small frown on his face. The girl giggled and extended her hand, he took it, his small body stood up with such force, it clearly didn't belong to an elementary schooler.
Does she have a strength-enhancing quirk?
" I am fine" he rasped out, his throat dry from crying.
"Did you fall off?" The girl asked "You have bruises on your arms and you might catch an infection if you don't clean and bandage them properly. Shall I heal it for you?"
Before the 12 year old could protest, the pink haired girl had already started healing his wound. Greenlight surrounded his arm and in a matter of seconds his arm was fully healed, it didn't even hurt!
"Woow!' Izuku started at his hand and back at the girl in amazement "Do you have a healing quirk? How much damage can it even heal? Can you heal broken bones? I think you should be able to but have you ever tried it? What about poisons, can you remove it like you removed the infection? And what about your strength, you are just 7 or 8 years old and my neighbor's kid is of that age too, but he isn't that strong...do you have a strength-enhancing and healing quirk both? That so cool! I wish I had a quirk..."
He trailed off, he had been rambling again hadn't he? Kaachan had said not to do that, it made him look stupid!
Izuku was about to ask for forgiveness but the girl had starting laughing, laughing at him. She reminded him of his mother when she laughed.
"Do you want to be a hero?" The girl asked, mid giggle.
"Yes...but I can't be one"
"Why not?" The pink haired girl stopped laughing instead looked at him with an expression he couldn't describe.
"I am quirkless "
"So?"
"Quirkless people can't be heroes"
"But they can!" The girl protested
"No they cannot" he replied back
She sighned "I had a friend, ya know. People told him that he couldn't be a hero because he was quirkless but he did become one! He mastered taijut - martial arts so well that he could beat people with quirks single handley. He was soo cool!"
Izuku's face brightened more as the story progressed but lost the smile as he realized the man was dead.
"Your friend?"
"Oh, I mean my mama's"
He remained quiet, the small girl looked at him patiently, she had taken a seat on the swing beside his, her pink hair flowed back and forth with the wind.
"So I can be a hero too?" He asked finally, breaking the silence.
Could he really be a hero?
The possibly 8-year-old smiled warmly at him "Yes, you can be a hero too. Believe it!"
She punched her fist in the air, grinning.
"And a good one too" she added.
With that said, Izuku couldn't hold back his tears. He could be like All Might, he could show Kaachan that he can be a hero too and he would become the No. 1 hero who saved people with a bright smile. 'Believe it!' He added as an afterthought.
"Thank you" He whispered "I will become a hero too, like All Might and save people with a big smile"
"Believe it!" The girl added
"Believe it!" He nodded, and he did.
After a moment of silence, he asked finally "What is your name?"
The girl grinned "I am Haruno Sakura"
"Midoriya Izuku" He supplied
And just like that, they talked till the sunset with Sakura-chan telling him all about her friend wearing a green spandex. After which, Izuku realized that he found a friend or rather a little sister and a sister who believed in him too.
I can be a hero...
