Since he is alive right now, it is clear that he succeeded in his attempt to come back to the past. But it was a narrow victory that could have easily been the opposite.
The summons had the help of the product of the fusion of the god of knowledge and the god of history, so the fight was at least two against one. If not for the fact that the product of the fusion had just fought and had very little divine energy while he still had a lot of divine energy, he would have died.
The only reason he survived was that the summons had run out of divine energy before him. If not, he would have lost that race to the past and would have been replaced by his summons. That was his closest brush with death in his whole life.
So now that he escaped by the edge of his teeth, he didn't dare to let the god of history summon him. In fact, he had made up his mind to stay away from the god of knowledge as far as possible. But this didn't mean that he had given up on bringing down the god of knowledge.
