Chapter 7 - F

It is not difficult to see how housing a mystical beast meant that one had a substantial amount of wealth. Firstly, to get a beast, it has to be bought from a merchant and the starting price for a basic beast was 100 gold. Most villagers toil for the entire year for 1 gold so you get the drift. Or, you could always try entering the mystical black forest or plain fields to obtain a precious mystical beast egg but that meant they were usually guarded by mystical beasts. Many traders and adventurous thrill seekers or those crazy enough to do so have perished in that arduous and treacherous journey. Next, a mystical beast usually consumes a carriage load of meat and various nutritional packs - which requires the mages to concoct in order to add value to the mystical beast. Otherwise, it was tough for the beast to evolve into powerful level ones. Unless, you managed to obtain one of those special beasts that naturally evolves in unique circumstances.

Usually, these beasts are connected to their owners too. Some may have telepathic waves but not all do. Again, it was all very circumstantial or it could simply be, the beast simply do not wish to connect because it does not like you.

In her current household, Rola and Celia both have mystical beasts. Jun too. Rola's usually pretty showy about it while the other two were much more mellow. Jun, quite predictably keeps a dragon - it was a highly popular choice for the boys while Rola kept a puffy and furry beast which was also a popular choice for girls. Celia's beast remains unknown.

Her eyes trailed to something that she had forgotten. It was a blade that was hidden in her pocket.

There was an inscription and an insignia on the blade. It belonged to Khai.

Her brows furrowed at the thought of Khai - her young boss who always had a partial place for her. Cold and calculated as he was in his dealings, he always had a special place for her.

She just couldn't see it till now, Freia bit her lower lip to stop herself from those tormeting thoughts. Her heart quivered a little at the thought of Khai looking resigned. He hardly had any emotions or expectations of anything. Yet, he did look somewhat disappointed when she had pierced the blade through his heart.

She really thought she could escape that life once she had gotten rid of him. Khai was like a persistent curse that followed her everywhere. Unrelentless and suffocating. He worked her till her extremes yet he was also oddly partial and gentle towards her.

It was a very odd working relationship that they had. Khai would use her by giving her assignments after assignments while promising her her freedom. Year after year, she had slogged for him....

Was it 5 years? or 10? She had lost count. In her memory, she loathed and..., she couldn't really place a finger over the emotions that she felt for him. At times, it was overwhelming, at times, it was numb and dull. It mostly felt like she was hitting a wall with her bare fists. Fruitless and painful.

Khai, had no feelings whatsoever.

She had hoped, year after year, that perhaps she could finally gain her freedom.

She longed to be free from him. It was awful being with someone who used her in his full capacity and not let her off.

It was just torturous.
