Chapter 17 - P

Khai's eyes fluttered open and he glanced at the girl who was unconscious at his bedside. His eyes narrowed and he shifted to look at her in a careful manner.

The poison was a derivative of the Dreamcatchers - he had experimented and it was one of the backlash that he had when he unleashed it and tested it. His body could handle many types of poisons considering how he had been exposed to all sorts of poisons since birth. The monthly backlash mostly included hallucinations or the ability to draw out certain memories that were kept in the crevices of the mind. However, for a mere mortal, it would cause the person to knock out for a week with severe hallucinations. She must have gotten it while feeding him the potion... Khai thought as he studied Freia carefully.

His eyes narrowed when he realised his heart sped just that tiny bit faster. He was highly aware of his entire state - he was usually able to pinpoint exactly what was going on. Chills - poison. Fever - his body was exhausted.

So, to have this moment was a bit of, or rather, quite an irregularity on his part.

He frowned tracing her cheeks borns with the tip of his fingers. It went from her eyebrow down to her cheeks and then it ended at her lips.

He was reminded of those dreams -

Khai's dreams were always the same - he was always chasing after someone in his dream. No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't see who the girl was. It was always him weaving through endless corridors that turned and cascaded into a myriad of paths. Yet, it always felt like he would finally be able to catch up to that figure - a slender girl dressed in skintight black that would have made him blush in this modest period but all he could about was the insatiable need to hold her firmly and to never let her go. Time and time again, he was always this close....

Yet, he could never once catch up to that girl. It was always her back. That lean tiny silhouette. He was always just this close....

And what was even more absurd, these dreams always left him waking up, severely parched and empty.

His brows furrowed as he placed his hand above Freia's head. She stirred and he shifted his hand away and went back to his 'sickly state'.

"Strange, why are you burning up? And what's up with me?" Freia murmured as she got up when she woke up. The first thing she did was to touch Khai's temperature.

Yes, she had always known Sick Boy's name. However, it became a bad habit of hers to always refer to him as Sick Boy. Perhaps, somewhere in her mind - she resisted the name. Not uttering it gave her that distant. Khai. What's in a name? His name, his face - it was too damn close to the modern day Kai.

Freia quickly shook her head to erase whatever memory she had conjured.

Her thoughts were all on Kai.

Finally Khai stirred and Freia checked in on him again, "How are you feeling?"

"Wa...ter...," Khai managed to utter. Freia got up too quickly and she felt faint.

Strange?

Without much warning, she ended up beside Khai. She tried to quickly get up but Khai held her wrist in a deathlike grip.

"Khai?" she narrowed her eyes and looked at him. Something about his expression wasn't quite right.

It was as though she was looking at Kai. His eyes were fixated at her and he glanced down, "Don't leave me again, Freia... I can't bear this again and again."

Freia had many possibilities in her head. However, even before she could say anything, Khai was back and he looked quizzically at his hand that was holding hers.

Without warning, Khai pushed her off the bed, almost like a girl caught in distress.

"Yikes," Freia got up rubbing her hips, "Could you be any gentler?"

Realising his mistake, Khai looked apologetic. His pale face reddened and he did look like he was a damsel who had just been taken advantage of with the blanket covering up to his shoulders.

With a pained expression, Freia took a deep breath and rubbed her temples - shouldn't she be the one in distress?
