Chapter 20 - A Mother's Love

[: 3rd POV :]

As Daniel began to share the truth with his mother, he made a conscious decision to be completely honest.

He revealed every detail, leaving no room for deception or omission.

From the moment Modern Fantasia had emerged until the present day, he recounted the events exactly as they had unfolded.

He described the appearance of the Divine Being, the mysterious phenomenon granting humans unique abilities, and the future he had experienced firsthand.

Leila listened intently, her initial shock gradually giving way to a sense of openness and understanding.

The unexplained phenomenon of the Divine Being lent credibility to Daniel's story.

It was no longer a stretch of imagination—the missing puzzle piece behind Daniel's sudden changes had finally been explained.

As she processed the revelations, her initial shock transformed into cautious acceptance.

She considered the possibility that reality held more layers than she had ever imagined.

The existence of the Divine Being and these unexplainable events hinted at a deeper truth that could no longer be ignored.

Despite the overwhelming nature of the information, Leila knew the importance of remaining calm.

After all, what truly mattered was not the Divine Being or Modern Fantasia—it was her son.

He was the most important person in her life, and her concern for him overrode everything else.

Appreciating his mother's willingness to listen and comprehend, Daniel shared further details about Modern Fantasia and the dangers it posed.

He explained how powers could be obtained and the looming threat of an impending apocalypse.

Leila's mind raced as she absorbed the gravity of the situation.

The prospect of an apocalypse and the need to confront it was daunting, yet she refused to let fear paralyse her.

Her love for Daniel was stronger than any fear, stronger than any threat the world could present.

She would not allow herself—or her son—to be defeated.

With that resolved, her thoughts turned to the matter that weighed most heavily on her heart.

'So… after all this time, the reason behind his sudden acceptance of me, and his otherworldly disappearance, is because of the future?'

'No wonder he seemed so mature. If the Entity hadn't appeared, I might have doubted him… but now, it all makes sense.'

His sudden maturity and acceptance of her, which had puzzled Leila before, now made perfect sense.

Yet, she couldn't ignore the weight of this revelation.

If Daniel had truly experienced the future, then he carried knowledge—insights that could shape their decisions and actions in ways she could only begin to imagine.

The gravity of that responsibility pressed heavily on her heart.

To think that her son had carried the burden of the future—the dangers, the uncertainties, the loneliness—was overwhelming.

She felt a mixture of pride for his strength and worry for the weight he bore alone.

Taking a deep breath, Leila made a firm decision.

She would not let him shoulder this burden by himself.

She would be his confidante, his support, his ally… and the one who loved him unconditionally as they faced the challenges ahead.

No matter how bleak or hopeless the future might seem, she would believe in him and stand by his side—just as she had in the life he had once left behind.

Still, her concern lingered for his current body and mind, both tested far beyond what any person should endure.

Looking into Daniel's eyes, she spoke, her voice carrying concern, determination, love, and a touch of obsession.

"Sweetie… no matter what happens, I will always be here for you. I'll be there whenever you need me. This time, you won't be alone. We'll face whatever comes together."

Leila cupped his cheeks gently, her tone warm and unwavering.

Hearing those words, the weight on Daniel's shoulders lifted in an instant, and tears filled his eyes.

"I-I…"

It was overwhelming. After all he had endured—the loneliness, the sorrow, the crushing despair—he had survived. He had made it this far against impossible odds.

And now, looking into her eyes—the eyes that reminded him of the night sky, of home—smelling her comforting scent, feeling her warmth that shielded him from fear… he realised just how much he had missed it all.

Revealing the truth to his mother had awakened memories of sadness and trauma that had lain dormant within his mind and heart.

The deaths of his loved ones had left scars that could never fully heal—not yet, at least.

In that moment, he questioned himself.

'If I weren't so weak… could I have achieved a better outcome?'

The question haunted him constantly, invading his thoughts even in sleep, gnawing at his sanity bit by bit.

Though he had somehow returned to the past, doubts lingered—could he truly prevent the inevitable apocalypse?

Noticing his turmoil, Leila didn't hesitate.

She pulled him close, resting his head against her chest, overflowing with maternal love.

"Shhh… don't be sad. I'm here, aren't I? Whatever happens in that other future, it isn't your fault, sweetie."

She gently patted and caressed his head, her touch soothing the storm within him.

In moments like this, she could finally fulfil her role as a mother.

"I'm your mother. No matter how many times, no matter how different the future, I would never hesitate to lay down my life for you."

"You are my most precious treasure, my beautiful son. Know that I will love you with all my heart—forever. That is my promise to you."

Her soft fingers traced his hand, and Daniel felt the weight of her love settle over him like a protective shield.

Leila could not imagine the full extent of the future he had endured, nor the trials he had faced, but all that mattered to her was his well-being.

She would sacrifice herself a thousand times over if it meant he could live.

Even subtly, she offered a thumbs-up to the parallel reality, silently acknowledging the change it had wrought in Daniel.

Gradually, his racing mind began to calm as he listened to the steady rhythm of her heartbeat.

Without realising it, Daniel drifted into a peaceful slumber, his soul finding solace in the soothing cadence against her chest.

The gentle rise and fall of her chest, accompanied by the steady thump of her heart, created a deep sense of calm within him.

In this tranquil state, his thoughts wandered to a world free from chaos and uncertainty.

He imagined a place where peace reigned, where every fear and worry was washed away by the harmonious rhythm of his mother's heartbeat.

With each passing moment, the weight of his burdens lifted, replaced by a profound serenity.

The troubles that had once consumed his mind seemed distant and insignificant in the presence of his mother's unwavering love and support.

Unbeknownst to Daniel, the exhaustion from his journey and the soothing rhythm of his mother's heartbeat lulled him into a deep, restorative sleep.

As he drifted further into slumber, he found refuge in the gentle symphony of her heartbeat, oblivious to the passage of time.

Leila remained by his side, her eyes filled with love and tenderness as she watched her son find peace in his dreams.

She understood the quiet healing her presence brought him, even as he slept.

The steady beat of her heart continued to serenade him, creating a cocoon of tranquillity around his weary form.

Leila's fingers gently stroked his hair, cherishing the sight of her son so calm, so unburdened.

In his dreams, Daniel envisioned a brighter future—a world where the lives of his loved ones endured in peace.

Through it all, the steady rhythm of his mother's heartbeat remained, a constant reminder that he was not alone.

In that shared calm, mother and son alike found solace.

Yet, as Leila watched him sleep, a surge of conflicting emotions rose within her.

She felt proud as a mother, knowing she had fulfilled her duties. But as a woman, a wave of euphoria overtook her.

'Ah, his sleeping face…it's too cute, too precious!'

She struggled to contain her emotions, and though the feeling flared briefly, she soon returned to her composed, solemn self, determined to remain the steadfast protector her son needed.
