Chapter 571 - New Projects 4

She embodied traits that made her fiercely protective of her community, which was the White Storm and her master which was Alyssia as she was willing to fight for those she served or loved.

Those traits made her loyal to Alyssia, while there were others that would help Val to make her own decisions without Alyssia there to always give orders.

If faced with a difficult decision that would be difficult to make without Alyssia around, then those core beliefs and traits would be helpful toward making a decision that would be less likely to be regretted and anguished over, as it would be the honourable and difficult one that may require self-sacrifice.

That did not mean that Val was so willing to sacrifice herself so easily when faced with a difficult situation, but it meant that she would rather take a path that was more dangerous for herself if it meant reducing the damage that could be done.

If it meant that more lives could be saved and there would be fewer casualties, then she would do what was required of her to achieve her objective, even if that meant she ended up damaged or lost some limbs.

So long as she could keep herself from being completely destroyed, the core of her being could still be retrieved so that she could go on living, since Alyssia was able to rebuild her or make her a new body.

Her body was already quite advanced, so there were very few situations that could possibly cause that kind of result.

Even if Alyssia were no longer around and Val still existed, she would have enough to be able to survive and thrive on her own, while she did possess enough traits within her to be able to safely choose a suitable new master that was worthy of her serving.

The most recent version was made with another purpose in mind, and that was toward the concept of a water spirit or fairy, otherwise known as a klabautermann, that dwells in ships.

They were known to be the incarnation of a ship that had developed a life of its own due to being well loved and cared for.

Further away from Alyssia was the form of something a little more mechanical that seemed to be connected to the walls, and where there were various mechanically built things located.

They were all deeply connected with the MMA as a whole, while most other things connected to it, like the cleaning and defence robots, were under its orders.

The appearance of the form that was there was similar to a young humanoid boy who was wearing a small sailor raincoat and other clothing.

They had a small mechanical hammer hanging from a belt strap on their waist, which made them look like a mechanical version of a ship spirit.

The core traits that Alyssia had built into it were that it was very merry and diligent, as its usual duties included warning when the ship was in danger and preserving it along with the crew.

Just as the ship would receive more care and love from the crew, the more it would grow to love them back as it carried out its duties.

What was most important was that it was made to be the spirit of the MMA, but it was a part of the MMA too.

It could be plugged in to become the whole of the ship, or it could separate itself to use its mechanical humanoid body to do things.

That way, it would not be too disconnected from the crew, and it could handle matters that would require immediate attention that others could not solve so easily.

A long list of information was added to provide ways to fix the MMA and to oversee the overall comfort and safety of those on board, so it could do much more than just act as an observer, reporting things and directing them.

Even the way that it addressed Alyssia was different from the others, who referred to her as master or something similar.

She was recognised as the ship captain who had the highest command over it, just like the others, but it was worded a little differently to suit what it was built for.

There were similar problems related to such things that Alyssia had thought of, as she did not wish for such terms to be used too often, as they could be worded differently.

If they kept addressing her that way, or others did the same, then she could already foresee how things could happen in the future if it was allowed to continue.

The use of the word master could easily be understood by many as a word that would be used by someone in a much lower position who belonged to another as a part of a master and slave relationship.

It was one where it robbed another of themselves as if they had no right to live their lives.

Automata had the capacity for feeling and understanding emotions just like humans, so it was all the more important that such a detail was not overlooked.

If put into a position where they were thought of as a slave, then not every person would be so kind to them, especially if that person had strong views of owning and having absolute dominance over such a being that they could do anything they wanted.

It was just as easy for just one of them to be led astray by a wicked master or to suffer great emotional damage from those types of masters that they could not go against.

Hearing the word master in a servile tone from the mouths of the automata would only inflate such beliefs and behaviours further, so it would be best to try to reduce such things as much as possible.

K1 was one example of having a dog personality that was loyal to its master, so it was difficult to find the right replacement for it.

There were some terms like owner, handler, guardian, pet parent, mom, dad or caregiver that could be added to other models, but Alyssia did not make any changes to how K1 addressed her since the way it did was quite amusing and cute.

For Val, master was one way to talk to someone she loyally served, but there existed other ways of addressing someone, like how a knight or retainer addressed someone they served.
