Chapter 1 - The Step

Humans are attacking each other again.

Two sides, thousands of soldiers… and thousands of deaths.

As expected, mortals never change.

"Hey, what are you looking at?"

"I thought you were some sort of spy drone one of those kingdoms sent. But instead of spying on me, you're ignoring me?"

Ah. That voice again.

Rory — A being who has already lived a really long live.

"Hey, what are those glowing words beside you? Wait, are you talking to me?"

He isn't from this world. A Foreigner.

"Who are you talking to, huh? And how do you even know all this details about me?"

To begin his story, we'll have to go back in time. Yes, quite far back.

"Hey, don't ignore me—!"

---

**May 13, 2011**

Somewhere in England.

A boy named Rory sat at home reading his books.

He was alone after his parents were out.

"What is this thing...? What are these images...?"

Rory was just enjoying the books and didn't noticed that someone was in the house with him.

Rory still didn't notice anything and just went to the kitchen to grab water.

Suddenly, there was a man who appeared behind him and tried to stab him with a kitchen knife.

Rory tried to evade, yet still got his arm injured.

The man tried to attack Rory again with another knife, but Rory ran away from the kitchen.

Rory ran to his room with heavy breaths and fear. His injured arm was also bleeding too much.

He was trying to think about what he should do. Unfortunately, the man barged into his room and the door opened.

Rory was crying hard because of the pain, to the point that he couldn't even think about anything anymore.

He tried to stay calm and collected like the heroes in the books he had read, but in reality, he couldn't think straight anymore.

All of a sudden, there was no sound anymore, and the man just ran away from the house.

"STOP!"

"What were those images?"

"Magic? Tricks? Hologram? Or illusion arts?"

"And listen to me, you little floating ball thing—!"

The light.

Rory saw the light again.

He thought he was dead and that this light was the afterlife.

But the things he saw weren't the peaceful afterlife.

Thousands of people were shooting arrows, stones, lances, and even swords.

The one they were trying to attack was Rory.

Rory thought this was weird, and the people were too small even to see clearly.

He was flying.

He had become the Unknown Creature — a flying fish whose size was as large as the kingdom.

The soldiers from the kingdom below were trying to attack him as they feared the unknown creature that had appeared before them all of a sudden.

A creature of that size was definitely capable of mass destruction.

Rory didn't even feel a little bit of pain from the attacks.

Then the king of the kingdom came out with an artifact and tried to seal this Unknown Creature.

Rory could have broken the seal easily, but he was too confused to react to this sealing and got hit by an attack, becoming sealed within the space inside the artifact.

When Rory was in the sealed space, he tried his best to understand what was happening — what's all this was and what had happened to him.

After some centuries had passed, he had adapted to this new life and the new abilities within the small sealed space and changed back to his human shape.

He had also somehow learned about this new world he was in through the abilities he had gained.

Then one day, he decided that he should get out of this space to learn many more things in this world — also with the hope that, on this journey, he could somehow find clues about how he could go back to his old life.

After many, many years later.

"Satisfied? What more do you want to say?"

"What are you even?"

"How do you even know about everything that happened here?"

"Are you the one who sent me here?"

"?????" "YOU'RE IGNORING ME?"

*Boom.*

Rory fired off a magic spell.

"How are you even generating those texts?"

"Who are you communicating with?"

"And what are you even made of?"

"Not even a tiny black spot after getting shot with my magic."

"Your body is that strong?"

Rory tried to check the unknown device with his skill *Inspection.*

The skill displayed the information of the object.

"What are these numbers and charts?"

"I have lived in this world for so long — I have never seen this kind of numbers."

"Anyway, I don't care about you anymore."

"I am about to complete the spell that I have put much effort and time into."

"You better keep doing whatever you want over there and don't come disturb me."

Spells.

Those are the magical abilities that most lifeforms can invoke.

Usually, when lifeforms are born, they are born with innate abilities and affinity over different natures of spells.

But there is always a chance that an "Anomaly" could form in this world.

"Yeah, yeah, keep talking and keep acting like you're all-knowing."

"Maybe you do know everything?"

"Ha, I may have become crazy after living alone for this long."

"Anyway, after this spell is complete, I can leave this boring world behind and see new things instead of these boring old men."

"And this damn world — why is it trying to banish me at every chance it gets?"

"I'm just a good, law-abiding person, you know. I've never done anything weird."

"Except some mishaps that happened accidentally."
