Chapter 817 - Chapter 796 [ Great Schnee Labyrinth - XVI ]

The party had once again resumed their journey through the crystalline corridors of the labyrinth, facing groups of ice ogres again and again.

"I didn't think those things were a normal monster with how annoying they are" - Shizuku said as she wiped the sweat from her forehead, though at the same time she was thankful that her clothes regulated her temperature, otherwise she would have caught a cold from all the sweat covering her body.

"I still can't believe that not only do we have to go through the trials of this labyrinth, but also the growing influence of an unknown creature that is sealed in this place" - Shea said with a frown - "Ugh, how I hate it when it gets inside my head!"

The other women frowned because it was obvious that the creature was still trying to annoy them, to make them fight again, though to no one's surprise, it wasn't working. Now that they had overcome and said everything they had inside them, the creature's attempts were futile, well, at least for all but one person.

Remia was frowning as she ignored the voice that made her feel a strange sense of dread, though she didn't understand why, after all, this was the first time she had heard it.

"Are you alright, Remia?" - Cloud asked with concern.

Remia smiled in response, noticing how the blond seemed to be showing his concern for them more often - "Yeah, it's just that voice doesn't seem to give up on me..."

Cloud frowned though he quickly put his hand on the woman's shoulder and told her that everything was fine.

Remia sensed something was off, though she quickly decided it was best not to think about the subject any further, after all, if it was something bad, Cloud would have told her a long time ago.

"Hmm, is anyone else sensing that the further down we go, the colder the labyrinth gets?" - Tio asked as she frowned.

"Yeah, I'm starting to feel little chills too, I guess the seals aren't as foolproof as we thought" - Shizuku replied as she looked at the blond.

The group continued to move forward, until they reached a new mirror maze, though this one was different, at least that's what they felt.

"Cloud... I sense danger in this place..." - Yue said as she looked around with her magical vision so she could detect some source of mana waiting to attack them, though it seemed like there was nothing unusual.

"I know, I feel a strange air too," Cloud replied as he walked over to a wall and saw his reflection. He frowned again as he made movements in front of the glass wall.

"You think our reflections are going to jump off those walls?" - Tio asked as she folded her arms.

"Anything is possible" - Cloud replied as he started to think - "We'd better watch out".

"Ok" - nodded the women as the group continued to move forward until they reached a huge glass door.

Cloud frowned as it was strange that nothing happened along the way, in fact, he actually thought his reflexes would come out and attack them.

"Cloud... hostile voices are louder..." - Yue said with a frown as she could feel her emotions starting to get out of control.

Cloud walked to the door and knocked on it, only to feel a warm sensation, which was twice as strange counting the fact that this place was in the middle of an icy tundra.

"Cloud?" - Shea said noticing the change in the blond's expression.

"Sorry, I was just thinking," Cloud replied as he turned around, "I can feel a powerful source of heat behind these doors."

"Heat? Impossible, that doesn't make sense" - Yue said as she knocked on the door and frowned as she didn't feel anything strange, and even though she was a little skeptical, she decided to believe in her beloved's words - ".... . ."

"Anyway, I'm going in, keep an eye out for any changes," Cloud said seriously as the girls nodded.

Cloud opened the ice door slowly, only to be greeted by a strong warm breeze.

The group entered carefully, after all, this drastic change in temperature was extremely strange, proving that this might be the most difficult test in the maze.

"Cloud, look at that crystalline dust..." - Yue said seriously.

Cloud looked towards the centre, the place where there seemed to be a fake sun that was melting all the ice in the area.

"That phenomenon is called diamond dust" - Cloud said as he started to think, although he only knew the name because his old friend Hajime had told him this curiosity after seeing a certain series of knights in armour that were based on constellations.

"Is it dangerous?" - Remia asked with concern.

"Possibly" - answered Cloud while shaking his head - "I mean, anything can be dangerous in this place, even the most harmless thing."

"Well, you're right," muttered Shea as she looked around carefully, searching for other possible dangers, though outside of that strange occurrence, the room seemed safe.

Cloud frowned as he sensed something odd was going on with that sun.

"You want me to use magic against the diamond dust?" - Yue asked seriously.

Cloud was silent for a few seconds before nodding.

Yue quickly reached out her hand and released a powerful blast of magical energy, which split the curtain of diamond dust, though to the group's surprise, it quickly returned to its original state.

"That stuff isn't diamond dust..." - Tio muttered as she felt a shiver run down her back - "It's hundreds of little creatures!"

Cloud's expression changed when he heard this, more so when he heard something start to fall from the ceiling. He quickly looked up, and watched as a shower of stalactites began to fall at full speed.

"Pick up the pace!" - Cloud exclaimed as he cast a quick incantation and grabbed Remia in his arms.

The other girls quickly gathered at his side as Yue and Tio began to recite an incantation.

"[Divine Intervention]"

"[Aura of Destruction]"

"[Ifrit's Body]"

Three powerful magics were activated at the same time, creating a barrier around the group, who quickly ran towards the next exit.

The diamond dust seemed to detect their presence, because it flew off in their direction.

"Cloud, I can feel a magical activation in the area, no, it's hundreds..." - Yue said as she looked around, only to notice how the stalactites began to vibrate, revealing a strange red stone.

The group watched in apprehension as the ice stalactites began to mutate rapidly, taking on a humanoid form that they immediately recognised.

"Golems..." - Shea said with disgust, after all, they had bad experiences with those things, no, that wasn't true in its entirety, they hated with all their might those artificial creatures, that's why just seeing them awakened something inside them.

"Don't let our emotions cloud our judgement, it's obvious that the labyrinth is making our hatred amplified" - said Cloud as he tried to calm his companions - "Let's move on, when we're safe we can fight those things, now it's much more important that we get out of here or we're going to be locked up slowly."

Yue reacted when she heard this, so she quickly increased the power of her magic.

Tio nodded at the group leader's words, while Cloud handed the rest of them the weapons with the most destructive power he had, so they could destroy the golems while they concentrated on protecting the group.

"Cloud, we've got trouble," Shea said as she felt her ears prick up, "I hear something ahead of us."

Cloud raised an eyebrow, and watched as the walls began to shake, only for another group of ice golems to emerge from the crystalline walls.

"At least they're not copies of us" - Shea said as the others gave him a blank look - "What? It's true!"

"I know, but this is not the time for this" - said Cloud as he concentrated even more mana on the barrier, which was harder than he thought, after all, this place was reducing the effectiveness of his igneous power.

"Sorry," said Shea with embarrassment.

"Putting that aside, brace for impact!" - Cloud exclaimed firmly as he pulled out his pistol and began firing at all the golems in front of them.

The girls nodded when they saw this and followed in his footsteps, after all, they had to get out of this place fast or they would soon be drowned by all the ice golems that were falling from the ceiling.

"Faster!" - Kaori exclaimed as she began to attack the approaching golems with her light weapons, especially her spear.

Cloud smiled slightly, though his expression changed slightly when he heard the annoying voice of the sealed creature in the background of this place.

[I see you're having fun, so I'm going to make things a lot more interesting, I hope you appreciate it because this will use up some of my current energy...]

"Tch" - Cloud clicked his tongue as he watched a stalactite, much larger than the others, fall right in front of them, so he quickly signalled for them to move back.
