Chapter 140 - Returning To Jersey City

As I finished checking those heaven-defying grenades, we were finally skimming the outskirts of Jersey City. I had to admit, the sight was sobering. The city looked truly hideous at this moment. Unlike the bustling, life-filled hub it once was, it now resembled a sprawling graveyard of concrete and steel.

Everywhere my eyes travelled, the horizon was jagged with scattered ruins. At dozens of different spots, long, thick tongues of black smoke still rose lazily from the ground, marking the spots where fires had finally burned themselves out.

In brief, it wasn't a city anymore; it was a deep, festering scar that the apocalypse had carved into the face of the Earth.

"What happened here?" The girls gathered around me at the chariot's railing, their expressions shifting to masks of surprise and horror as they looked toward the center of the devastation.
