". . ." Evie took a step back, throat tightening. She couldn't form words.
Rosie joined in, her usual smile replaced with a rare frown. "I had my doubts before, but after what happened . . ."
She pressed a hand to her cheek, expression troubled. "Tell us the truth, dear. Are you here to get our map and information as well?"
Evie's palms were cold despite the stifling heat. Sweat trickled down her back, her heart pounding so hard she thought they might hear it. She tried to think of an excuse—something believable—but all she managed was a weak, "No."
