"Got everything you needed?"
Evie froze. The voice came so suddenly, it felt like it pierced through her thoughts.
She turned and saw him — the man in the hood, standing barely a step away. His presence alone sent shivers down her spine.
"E-excuse me?" she stammered.
Ren's tone was calm, but every word carried weight. "The map and our information. Have you got it?"
". . ."
Evie's pupils dilated. Her fingers trembled slightly as she looked everywhere but him — at the glowing rocks, at the magma dripping from the ceiling, anywhere that wasn't his face.
It was a good thing the others were walking ahead, laughing lightly as they discussed loot and spells. Ren's voice was so low that only she could hear.
"I… I don't know what you're talking about," Evie managed, her voice cracking despite her effort to sound calm.
How did he know? Had she been that obvious? Or was it because he'd already suspected her — the same way he suspected Robert's group before they betrayed them?
