AUTHOR'S POV
Diana went out of Dr. Murphy's room in the ICU and immediately found Calvin who was patiently waiting at the nurses' station. Looking at Calvin as she approach him, she can't believe that she's seeing him now on a different perspective. Walking down the hallway, Diana ran her eyes on his cool hair, fair skin, and scarlet lips. Neither of those appearances gives her a slight hint of what he truly is. And that dimples when he smiles? He turns to an angel who belongs to the skies. As she draw nearer, her acquaintance of Calvin changed. The person whom she knew as one of her silent sanctuaries in the hospital, is nothing but a deadly creature of the night. Frightening as his true nature is, she's confused at why Calvin remained as a good friend ever since.
"How is he?", Calvin smiled back at her as he meet her in the eye.
"Recovering. He's one tough cookie", she answered as they proceed to the elevator.
"I heard you had a riff with Miller in the OR", Calvin said, as he press the elevator button to open.
"Yea.. he's just being himself.", Diana said, as she keep her hands in her pockets. She was taken aback when the doors opened to an empty lift. Unsure if it is safe to get in the elevator alone with Calvin, she held her breath with her feet pinned on floor.
"An asshole", Calvin whispered with a low chuckle. He pushed the reluctant doctor in the elevator and pressed on 6th floor, leading to her office. Diana chuckled nervously as she stand near the elevator buttons.
Diana tried to relax as she strive to breathe normally, when suddenly Calvin held her arm pulling her to face him. She gasped at his sudden gesture, that her body stiffened like an impulse. "Are you afraid of me? I know you already know", Calvin whispered.
"No. You're my friend", Diana bravely said, as she met his gaze. She stood on edge with fear that he may bite her at any time.
"How sure are you I won't hurt you?", Calvin tightened his grip on Diana, she winced as he deepen his fingers on her arm.
She breathe deeply before she answered. But when she opened her mouth, the elevators opened where Dr. Blackwell was already waiting. "Dr. Woodsworth, in your office please", he said in a serious tone. He glared at Calvin seeing him grabbing Diana.
Diana forced a smile at Calvin, as she fiercely removed his hand on her. "Yes Doctor". Diana couldn't calm her heart as she follow Dr. Blackwell to her office. As soon as she shut the door close, Dr. Blackwell grabbed a chair and sat on it, with his arms rested on his big belly. "Congratulations on your successful operation on Dr. Murphy. I heard what happened", he said.
"But..? Go on, Dr. Blackwell", Diana sat down on one of the chairs near her mentor. Diana knows she'll get a sanction for insubordination for what she did with Dr. Miller.
"I'll have to suspend you for not following direct orders from your superior. I know you mean well Diana, but you know how protocols work", Dr. Blackwell revealed as he give her a half smile, feeling bad to suspend his favorite chief resident. "Would you like to say something for yourself?", he added.
"I understand, Dr. Blackwell. I know my place. The important thing for me is that Dr. Murphy lived. Suspension means more rest days for me then", Diana shrugged her shoulders as she accepted the verdict.
"You're a good doctor, Diana. You may hate it here but, Miller is the head surgeon. He calls the shots.", he frowned showing how bad he feels. Diana just nodded in approval.
"By the way, is Dr. Pearce… threatening you? Or are you guys a thing?", he suddenly asked.
"What an absurd question", Diana said. An intimate relationship between a wolf and a vampire is like shooting for the moon and the stars. Calvin never romantically pursued her, and Diana only sees him as a brother.
"I guess that's a no. I'll fax over the memo for your suspension", Dr. Blackwell sighed in relief. "Take care always, Diana. And do watch your back", he tapped Diana's shoulder then went out.
Diana sighed sharply. She looked out the window and sees how confusing the weather is just like how it was on her wedding day. The sun is brightly shining, and yet the rains are pouring. She went over her desk and went over the case studies and patient charts scattered around. Her knees have stopped trembling, but her hands still haven't found its grip. She could only wish that she won't see Calvin again. "What am I going to do...", she rested her head down on the desk figuring out her plan.
Hours later, Diana didn't noticed it was already dark. The sandwich Kate left her this afternoon was left untouched, and her tea have gone cold. She stretched her arms upward and massaged her neck, and flinched when she noticed someone standing by the door. "How long have you been there?".
"Long enough", Calvin said, closing the door behind him. He traipsed towards Diana, haunting her with a slow whistle.
"You scared the hell out of Dr. Murphy", Diana said as she move away. According to Dr. Murphy, he saw Calvin talking with another person in the fire exit and overheard them about the plans on killing Diana. Calvin disapproved, snarled and strangled the man of the same breed with one hand as he lifted him up in the air. They noticed Dr. Murphy who clearly heard and saw everything. The poor doctor was startled, ran and fell down the stairs in fear for his life. Good thing that the interns passed by the fire exit, or else he could've been dead.
"He just came at the wrong place, at the wrong time", Calvin said, reaching Diana's side.
"Just like I was that night at your car?", remembering the attack in the parking lot while waiting for Calvin.
"Hmm..", Calvin nodded and faced Diana. He held her arms and pulled her close. "Diana… I know how illogical this is.. but, I've always loved you at a distance.. I want you to know, that I won't let anything happen to you", his hazel eyes gleamed as he smile confessing his feelings to Diana. But for Diana, she sees terror in his eyes especially when he said, "I will kill for you".
Diana drew back at his hair-raising touch, as she try to remove his grip. She thought, that the fact that he's a vampire and associated with her mother, Calvin can't be trusted with his words. Calvin set his eyes on her like how a lion looks at its prey. She examined his face very well. Despite Calvin is smiling showing his attractive dimples, it doesn't seem to show happiness. It's just plain and dry.
"Do you know what I am? Why do they want to kill me? And why are you protecting me? ", Diana asked Calvin one after another to confirm his recognition of her nature, and find out what he wants from her.
Calvin forcibly held Diana on the waist. Diana's heart started to beat fast, as her hands tremble in dread. "Despite having an unmatched nature, it never became a hindrance for me to admire you Diana", he didn't exactly confirmed what she is. Nevertheless, Diana assumed that their differences could mean that she's from a clan of wolves. "Your blood, Diana", Calvin said. Diana widened her eyes hearing the exact words the vampire who attacked her said. "It's more precious than anything in the world", Calvin added as he caress her back trying to make her relax. Diana breathe slowly as her parted lips tremble. Calvin then brushed her cheek with the back of his finger and placed his cold palm on her face as he try to kiss her.
"I'm sorry, Calvin, but I don't feel the same way", Diana said, as she look away.
Calvin lifted her face with his finger and said, "No, Diana." Calvin grabbed her by the shoulders tightly and said "You are mine".
Diana breathe heavily as she put her hands on Calvin's chest to push him away. "You are hurting me, Cal", she said as she struggle.
At this moment, there's one person Diana can only think of. Scott. Compared to Calvin, Scott's touch and warmth are more gentle and approving. He had a grip that never seem to let go, but doesn't hurt. Scott's eyes sparkles in love at the sight of her. And most especially, when she look into Scott's eyes, she sees herself smiling genuinely, without fear or anxiety. "Will you be honest with me?", Diana breathlessly asked, as her eyes start to swell in madness.
"All the time, from now", Calvin answered, as he let her go for a while.
"What's with my blood?", she asked.
