Chapter 48 - It’s Been A Long Day

AUTHOR'S POV

"It would be best if that would come from your mother. I just happen to collect it", Calvin answered briefly. He then grabbed her again from her shoulders. This time with much gentleness, and softness in his plain expression. "But let me tell you, your blood tastes sooo... so good", Calvin held her close to him, as if hugging her. When Diana tries to move away, Calvin just keep on pulling her back in.

Diana thought that what Calvin is feeling towards her is nothing but a fatal attraction. With his every touch, she felt neither comfort nor serenity. She develops an inexplicable overpowering fright making her blood curdle inside her veins. She gets that mental haze, where her fear hijack her reasons to run. There's no amount of time she'd want to live in that constant dread. Calvin kept making his advances. Taking in deep breaths of Diana's scent, and hearing her heart pump blood in her heart up close. He stared at her bare skin by her neck, narrowing his vision on her veins where her precious is one bite away.

"Diana, are you done? Shall we go?", Kate suddenly blurted out widening her eyes at Diana who looked like a scared rabbit in the arms of Calvin. "Dr. Calvin", she greeted, with much confusion.

"Ye-yes, Kate. You're just in time", Diana stuttered as she could hardly stand on her weak knees. She pulled away from Calvin, who have loosend his hold in her. Staggering, she grabbed her purse, and held on to Kate as they went out to the door. "Thanks", she mouthed to her best friend.

"You going, Dr. Calvin?", Kate asked, with raised brows.

"Nah... I'll see you very soon, D", he smirked, as he watch the girls go.

Diana and Kate clutched on each other out of the hallway to the elevator and towards the exit of the hospital. Kate spoke not one word. She just squeezed her trembling friend in her secured embrace, who's white as sheet and sweltering in cold sweat. Sooner they reached Diana's car, and when they got in, they both had a long sigh of relief locking all the doors. "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?! I've never seen Calvin so… eek", Kate squealed feeling grossed out after seeing how he practically harassed Diana. He had those intense piercing eyes on Diana's neck. And the way he grabbed her shoulders... they were iron grip, digging in her thick clothes. And more alarmingly, Kate was more than stupefied seeing how afraid Diana seemed to be in that inescapable tight spot.

"He like shifted to a brand new person. I don't know him anymore", Diana said in grief. She started the car with her shaky hands, and drive out.

"Can you even drive?", Kate worriedly asked, buckling herself with the seatbelt.

"Yea..", Diana answered, as she held onto the steering wheel tightly with her two hands.

Despite worried, Kate let Diana steer the wheel. "I received the memo about your 3-day suspension, D. Maybe, it's a perfect excuse to stay away from Calvin for a while… MY GOODNESS! His eyes were like staring at you like he'll swallow you whole! It's a good thing that I forgot my cell on my table. If not, girl, you're gonna be in great trouble... He's good-looking, I'll give that. But he's always been like a brother to us.. to you!", Kate rapped, as she gestured with her hands while talking. Her restless mind kept repeating earlier's encounter, that she couldn't keep up with her rapid breaths. Diana set her eyes on her moon phase watch thinking of Scott. With only just the thoughts of him, she have started to feel a lot better.

"Just imagine, he can freely come in your house at any time, D. I'm freaking worried about that." Kate can't hide her extreme fear and anger towards Calvin. "D, Would you like to move in with me? For my peace of mind",

Diana didn't want to involve Kate in the dangerous situation she's in. It will complicate things. She haven't even told her that Calvin is a vampire yet. "Thanks Kate.. I don't want you to get involved in any of these. Just, stay away from him, okay?", Diana warned her best friend for her safety.

"Positively away from him. You should at least tell your mother. Your house is not really safe anymore with him coming around", Kate lifted her feet up hugging her knees. They both exchanged glances, and stayed on their toes each time they reach a traffic light on red signal. Worried that Calvin might just pop up anytime. Kate decided to turn on the radio, lowering the tension stuck in the atmosphere. She ought to find a more soothing music, to ease their worries.

Diana drove Kate home first before heading to the Villa Estates. The long drive to Kate's place helped clear her head. "Are you sure you don't want to stay… at least for tonight?", Kate worriedly offered her home to Diana as she hold the door open on her side. She lives in a noisy neighborhood, where there are always cars and people passing by. In case they get intruders, they can easily scream for help.

"I'll be fine, don't worry. Go in, now", Diana hushed, relieving her best friend of her worries with a smile.

Once Kate's in, Diana then drove out. She turned off the radio and listened to the hum of her car. The blinding car lights beamed in her eyes, struggling to drive at night.Thinking that Calvin could be there, she is swarmed with this uneasy feeling of going home. Diana stopped a few meters from the entrance of the Villa Estates, and lowered the headlights of her car. She sighed sharply and brushed her hair to the side with her fingers, leaning back, resting her hands on the steering wheel.

Should I go?

She contemplated.

Minutes turned to hours as time fly deep into the night, Diana dumped her head on the steering wheel shuffling her feet. Hesitation completely came all over her. She should've accepted Kate's offer.

After a while she caught a glimpse of a blue sports car which suddenly stopped on her side. With shuddered breaths, a sudden lightness came over her after a silent prayer was answered. Her eyes swelled at the sight of Scott who opened his car window smiling at her. Her world trapped in despair, suddenly brightened up. Diana quivered holding back her tears, softly waving her hand at Scott.

"Why didn't he knew I was in danger? Why didn't he come?", she wondered.

Scott mouthed for her to follow, as he maneuver his car to the city. Diana agreed, and tailed after Scott who was driving at a slow pace. She was expecting that Scott would lead her to his penthouse, yet he drove to the adjacent building. Sooner, they reached 11th Building and parked their cars in the basement. Scott hurriedly went out of his car, and rushed to Diana opening her car door.

"Hey, missed me?", he led her out and was surprised when Diana suddenly crashed in his arms. And that's where here fears dissolved in tears. She poured her eyes out as she bask in Scott's arms, showing her vulnerability. "Are you alright?", Scott embraced her back tightly with furrowed brows. "What happened?," he asked as he stroke her hair gently.

Diana closed her eyes and buried her face on Scott's chest. "It's been a long day", she said, as she pull herself together. "I'm sorry, I just feel so lost", she pulled away, sighing sharply, wiping her tears with her palms.

"You can do that anytime you want, my Luna", Scott pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her, resting his forehead on hers. "Come on, let's go. We can talk upstairs", he held her hand and took her to the elevator.

"Where are we going?", Diana asked as she grip on Scott's hand. She doesn't feel like visiting someone today. "What's this place?". Scott kept mum as he slid the keycard at the sensors going to the 21st floor.

In a swift ascension, the elevator reached the 21st floor with the doors opening to an inviting space. Diana was in awe how breathe-easy the home they went into. From where she stood, she could smell the scent of jasmine with a hint of vanilla suspended in the air. It was enough to invite herself in.

In slow steps, Diana was utterly astonished at the loft type contemporary dwelling in perfect warm tones, black accents and floral focal walls. The soft glow from the large Pembroke lampshades give that restful sight of calm. The rosewood flooring underneath the rectangular wool and silk carpets had their magic done being put together. As if walking on them with shoes on is a sin. The large windows with a view of the city under the sky blanketed with millions of stars surely is the prominent detail of the entire home. Whoever lives here, surely values quiet moments in art, and cityscapes, Diana thought.

"As much as I wanted you to move in with me, I know you wouldn't want that.", Scott let her in as he open the lights to see the full view of Diana's new home. "So I bought this home where you can be safe. It's fully furnished, so you can move in anytime. Jim also prepared new sets of clothes and shoes in the closet just in case you want to move right away…" he paused noticing Diana's eyes swelling in tears again. "Diana.. what's the matter? You didn't like it?", he took her hand and kissed them, worried she might not like this kind of home. He thought opulence might not be her persona liking, so he had the house decorated as neutral as possible. "Is that bad? You can change them how ever you want".

Diana lowered her face, with her palms on her face as she weep buckets. For the longest period of time that she has been strong, her pillars of strength crumbled down one piece at a time. Her unspoken fears were knocking her out, and the overpowering worries were shattering her spirits. Just when she's about to accept defeat, Scott appears to break her fall. "It's perfect, thank you Scott", Diana whimpered like a child.

Those aren't happy tears, Scott believed. Lifting Diana's reddened and moist face from all the crying, he wiped her cheeks with his fingers, and kissed her puffed eyes. And without thinking twice, he lowered his face and brushed the tip of his nose on her cheek. He softly kissed her nose, as he hold her face with his warm palm. He stared at her sapphire eyes and shifted his gaze down to her parted lips. They both closed their eyes, as they finally share their first kiss.
