Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: Has He Recognized Me?

Being despised by a thug!

Elara Don glared at Damon Hawke, "I came here, of course, because there's something up with the company. Duh!"

Ha!

A sharp retort!

Not yielding an inch!

Still, the previously pitiful, pleading look was quite endearing.

Damon Hawke chuckled softly, lowering his gaze to Elara Don's fresh face, "You're so diligent at work; does your boss know? You should definitely take credit."

He hadn't expected this woman to go to the flower base personally.

She was indeed quite dedicated to her job.

"Spare me! That man, who's as moody as a storm, utterly narcissistic, and with the poorest judgment of character, the farther away from him, the better."

Elara Don curled her lip in disdain.

Such an assessment!

The smile on Damon Hawke's face froze, "You really don't like him?"

Was her impression of him that bad?

"He's irrelevant, whether to like or dislike doesn't matter."

Irrelevant?

Damon Hawke's voice deepened, "For you to say that, something must have happened. Care to share?"

"As for him, if nothing else, he has terrible taste!"

Elara Don vented angrily, "His fiancée abuses his own son, yet he turns a blind eye. Would you say he's blind?"

Victoria Don abuses Charlie?

Damon Hawke's eyes darkened, "Did you see this with your own eyes, or is it hearsay?"

"Of course, I saw it with my own eyes."

Elara Don felt indignant, "Moreover, his son doesn't like his biological mother. A child's world is the purest; they can see who's genuinely good to them and who isn't. They might not say it, but their hearts are clear as a mirror. So, if the child doesn't like his mother, there's definitely something wrong. Poor child, who knows if she's even his biological mother."

If she's even his biological mother!

Damon Hawke squinted, his mind jolted as something flashed in his mind.

His gaze fell on the woman's pleasant face, Damon Hawke's thin lips parted slightly, "Four years ago, did you ever visit the Houghton Hotel under the Hawke Corporation?"

Elara Don: "..."

What!

Why did he suddenly ask this question?

Could it be that he recognized her?

A hint of panic flashed in Elara Don's eyes. She looked up and, upon meeting the man's deep gaze, quickly averted her eyes.

"No! Why do you ask?"

Could it be!

Did she slip up somewhere?

Did he recognize her?

Damon Hawke stared at the guilty-looking woman, not missing the panic in her eyes.

Why panic?

Afraid her identity as a single mother would be exposed, or is it something else?

"This is my stop. I need to get off the bus."

The bus slowly pulled into the stop. Elara Don, under Damon Hawke's scorching gaze, quickly got off.

Damon Hawke leisurely followed her off the bus.

"Uh, thanks again, see you."

Elara Don waved to Damon Hawke and quickly walked towards her neighborhood.

The woman's steps were a bit hurried, as if she were avoiding something.

Damon Hawke's dark eyes were deep as he took out his phone.

"Chase Quinn, how is Elara Avery?"

"She's been taken to the police station."

"Good, come pick me up."

This Elara Don, she's really becoming more and more interesting to him!

In the apartment building, Elara Don pressed the elevator button and let out a deep breath.

She couldn't quite understand why this thug would bring up something from four years ago out of the blue.

Did he recognize her or not?

Even if he did recognize her, she must keep the secret about Bea, never letting him know of Bea's existence!

With determination in her heart, Elara Don returned home.

"Mommy, you're back!"

As soon as the door opened, Bea rushed over.

Accompanying the greeting was Evan Miles's daughter, Claire Grant.

"Mommy, hug."

Seeing the two little ones, Elara Don's heart melted completely.

She crouched down to hug them both, giving each a kiss.

"Elly, have you had dinner? If not, I saved some dinner for you."

Evan Miles came over and said with a smile.

"Evan, thank you."

Elara Don stood up, looking at Evan Miles with gratitude.

He was always helping her with her son and cooking dinner.

He truly was a kind and caring man.

"It's nothing. I know when you start working, you forget to eat and sleep."

Evan Miles smiled warmly.

Elara Don pursed her lips into a smile, not telling them about today's events because she didn't want them to worry.

"Since you're back, Tilly and I should head off."

Evan Miles glanced at the time and picked up his daughter.

"No, I want to stay with Mommy and Brother Bea."

The little one pouted her small red lips, wiggling her small behind to get down.

Evan Miles fondly pinched the little one's small nose, "Haven't played enough yet? Time to go home for a bath and bedtime."

"But, Mommy can bathe Tilly, Mommy can come home with Tilly."

The little one tilted her head, speaking in a cute, milky voice.

Elara Don felt a little embarrassed and quickly said, "Tilly dear, it's too late today; come and play at godmother's house tomorrow!"

The little one was too young, and she needed to slowly correct her in addressing her.

"Yes, Mommy had a long day at work, let's let her rest well."

Evan Miles's eyes briefly showed a touch of melancholy, as he patted his daughter's little head and bid farewell to Elara Don.

As soon as the door closed, Harry Soo clung to Elara Don's side.

"Mommy, have you considered Uncle Miles? Although I don't like to share your love with others, he's quite nice. If you marry him, you wouldn't have to work so hard."

Uncle Miles had been looking after them since they were abroad.

If Mommy chose him to be his dad, he wouldn't mind.

"Alright, stop playing matchmaker! Quickly, tell Mommy, were you well-behaved at school today?"

This child, why has he been so eager to matchmake her lately?

Does he really long for a father?

Elara Don felt overwhelmed!

...

Fairlight Manor.

Damon Hawke entered the main hall.

"Young master, you're back."

"Mm, where's the little master?"

"Upstairs, Miss Thorne is there too."

Victoria Don is there too?

Damon Hawke squinted his dark eyes and walked upstairs.

The corridor was silent. Damon Hawke didn't alert anyone as he reached the door of the children's room.

"Why won't you listen? Huh? Who is this woman in the painting? Speak up! You're infuriating me, mute again? In front of that woman, you talked a lot, didn't you? And you wanted your father to chase another woman? Have you forgotten, I'm your mother?"

A sharp female voice came from inside, and Damon Hawke's eyes darkened, stretching out a hand to twist open the door.

In his view was Victoria Don twisting Dominic Hawke's arm.

The little fellow stood silent, eyes red, mouth tightly shut, shoulders hugged tight.

Damon Hawke's heart felt as if it had been fiercely slashed by a knife, his gaze turned instantly sharp.

"Victoria Don, what are you doing!"

The shout, like an enraged lion, sent Victoria Don reeling before realizing, crashing into the table, and rolling to the floor, screaming in pain.

Through blurred vision, she saw the man with the face full of darkness, her heart trembled.

Damon Hawke had returned!

And he was furious!
