Chapter 474 - Pure Necklace

Seven Sins System Chapter 474. Pure Necklace

Puriel's PoV

Puriel watched Azrael disappear into his portal. She stood there for a long moment, staring at the spot where he had just been. The playground felt so empty, emptier than before when she had been searching for the lost necklace alone.

'Why couldn't I ask him to stay longer?' she thought, frustration bubbling up inside her. There was a sense of regret gnawing at her, a quiet, persistent voice in the back of her mind whispering that she should have said more, done more to keep him there.

She wanted him to stay. She wanted him to... what? Confess his feelings? Admit that he felt the same confusing pull between them that she did?

Puriel shook her head, trying to dispel the ridiculous thoughts that swirled through her mind. Besides, wasn't she the one who always struggled to voice what she truly felt? Wasn't she the one who was too afraid to face the reality and her emotions?

She realized, with a sinking feeling in her chest, that she had fallen for him. Fallen for Azrael, the devil who was supposed to be her nemesis. The one who had once been her enemy in every sense of the word. She loved him, and it terrified her. She loved him so much that it made her question everything she thought she knew about herself, about the divine laws that governed their existence.

She questioned her logic, the very foundation of her beliefs, wondering why they had to be enemies just because they were from different realms. Why was it that love had to feel like betrayal?

Her hand reached up almost unconsciously, her fingers curling around the pendant now resting against her collarbone. She rubbed it instinctively, as if seeking comfort from the cool metal, hoping it might offer her some semblance of peace. But all it did was remind her of him—of the strange tenderness in his eyes when he had placed the necklace around her neck, of the way his fingers had lingered just a moment too long on her skin.

"Why of all creatures did it have to be you?" she whispered to herself, her voice barely audible in the empty playground. Her words were a plea. A question directed at the heavens or perhaps at the cruel twist of fate that had brought them together and bound them in this impossible, painful way.

Yes… why did it have to be him? Why did she have to fall in love with the Prince of Darkness himself, the Lord of Wrath, the one who embodied everything she was supposed to stand against?

She could almost forgive herself if she had fallen for Asmo, the Lord of Lust, whose existence was a challenge to her virtue. That would have made some twisted kind of sense since she never fought against him that badly. But this… this was different.

Puriel closed her eyes, trying to steady her breathing, but her thoughts were a chaotic mess. She remembered their fights—the way they clashed again and again. She remembered the hatred in his eyes, the way his words had cut her to the bone, had made her question everything she thought she knew about herself. And yet, despite all of that, or maybe because of it, she had fallen for him.

"What's wrong with me?" she asked herself, her voice breaking slightly. She felt a tear slip down her cheek, and she angrily wiped it away, cursing herself for her weakness.

'Huh?' Puriel blinked, her thoughts coming to an abrupt halt as something suddenly occurred to her. She had been so caught up in her emotions, so overwhelmed by the feelings swirling within her, that she hadn't noticed it at first. But now, standing here in the quiet playground, she realized that something was different about the necklace.

She couldn't feel any demonic power emanating from it. None of the dark, oppressive energy she had come to associate with Azrael and his kind.

It felt… pure. Just like the old necklace she had received from him the first time. No… even more than that. She could feel a faint trace of something else, something she recognized instinctively—angelic power. Her own essence. It was so subtle, so faint, that she might have missed it if she hadn't been holding the pendant so tightly, her fingers pressed against the cool metal.

"Impossible…" she muttered, her voice filled with shock and disbelief. Her mind raced, trying to make sense of what she was feeling.

She paused for a moment, focusing on the pendant, trying to remember every detail of what had just happened. How had she not noticed it before? She had been too nervous, too caught up in the moment with him, to pay attention to the details.

But now… now that she was alone, with nothing but her thoughts, she remembered. She remembered seeing something when he gave her the necklace—a burn. A small, almost imperceptible wound on his hand, red and angry, as if something corrosive had eaten away at his skin. She had seen wounds like that before, and knew exactly what could cause such damage. Holy power.

Her eyes widened as the realization hit her. "He… He used my holy water to neutralize it, didn't he?" she muttered, her voice barely above a whisper.

She felt her heart lurch in her chest, a strange mixture of emotions washing over her—shock, confusion, disbelief… and something else. Something warm and unsettling, something that made her chest tighten and her breath hitch in her throat.

Why would he do that? Why would a devil willingly subject himself to the pain of holy water just to give her this necklace?

Devils avoided angelic power at all costs. It was anathema to them, something that caused them great pain and suffering. And yet… he had done it. He had taken the holy water she had given him—had it been for his supposed birthday?—and used it to purify the necklace, to rid it of his demonic energy so that she could wear it.
