Seven Sins System Chapter 484. One Happy Morning
I put my feet on the floor and stretched, feeling an unusual lightness in my body. Today, everything felt different, almost too good. My mood was high, and I couldn't quite pin down the reason.
Was it because of Red? The fact that I had brought her into my contract, made her my succubus? Or was it something else? Maybe it was the roll of bandages that Puriel had brought me in secret. Or, who knows, maybe it was just the intense night I'd had with Red. Whatever the reason, I didn't care. I felt great, and that's all that mattered.
I walked into the bathroom at a leisurely pace, whistling a bit to myself. The sound echoed off the tiles, and it felt strange, hearing such lightheartedness coming from me.
I splashed water on my face, letting the coldness clear the last remnants of sleep, and brushed my teeth with an energy I hadn't felt for so long, I even didn't remember the last time I felt this way. I was even feeling fancy today and grabbed my cologne bottle, the one I'd altered with my Devil's Craft, infusing it with some flowers. It was supposed to be a cheap cologne, but with my tweaks, it had become something far more luxurious, a scent worthy of royalty like me. Talk about cheating, huh?
I sprayed it across my neck and chest. The scent lingered in the air, rich and exotic. It was a small indulgence, but one that made my mood even better. I threw on a simple t-shirt and shorts, ready for my morning jog. But as I glanced in the mirror before leaving, I realized something else... I was smiling. Not my usual smug smirk or the cold, calculating grin I wore when I had plans in motion. No, this was different. A genuine smile. It had been a while since I'd felt like this. Normally, I was either charming and arrogant, or downright grumpy. But today… Today was different.
Once I stepped outside, the early morning air hit my face. My smile still lingered, and it felt good. I started jogging. But it wasn't long before the peace of my morning was interrupted.
I didn't have to look to know who it was... the disaster trio. Barry, Ion, and Darren jogged up beside me as if they had been waiting for this moment all morning. Without so much as an invitation, they fell into step beside me, their eyes immediately locking onto my grin.
"Okay, you need to explain that stupid grin," Barry said matter-of-factly, not even bothering with small talk. His voice was blunt, his curiosity cutting straight to the point.
I chuckled, shaking my head. "A secret," I said, keeping my pace steady, not giving them more than that. I knew it would drive them crazy.
Ion raised an eyebrow as he jogged beside me. "C'mon, doc, you don't just show up all happy out of nowhere. What happened?" he pressed, his tone a mix of curiosity and suspicion.
"Let's just say I had a good night," I replied, keeping it vague, enjoying the way their curiosity spiked. I could practically feel their frustration growing.
Darren chimed in next. "A good night, huh? I'm not buying that. You've been a grump for as long as we know you, especially yesterday. And suddenly you're out here smiling like you've won the lottery or something."
I gave him a sidelong glance, my grin widening. "Maybe I did," I teased, knowing it would only stoke the fire.
"Seriously?" Barry groaned, clearly not satisfied with my evasiveness. He jogged a little faster to match my pace. "We know something's up. You're never this… happy. Spill it already."
I couldn't help but laugh at how relentless they were. But I had no intention of giving them what they wanted. "You'll just have to keep guessing, boys," I said, shrugging casually.
Ion let out a frustrated huff, falling slightly behind before catching up again. "You're killing me. Just give us something. Did you get promoted? Win a secret bet? Summon a devil and make it do your laundry?"
I cringed at his last sentence, turning to him with a look of disbelief. "Why would anyone summon a devil just to do their laundry?" I asked, my voice filled with mock horror. The thought of a mortal daring to summon someone like me for something as mundane as washing clothes was absurd. It would be even more ridiculous than summoning a devil to play hero, thinking they could challenge me like I was some last boss in a game. At least those summoners had misguided ambition. But laundry? That was just pathetic.
Ion shrugged, completely unbothered by my reaction. "Dunno, maybe you are that desperate?" he said in a casual tone, as if the idea wasn't the most ridiculous thing he'd ever suggested. He was always coming up with these wild ideas, but this one took the cake.
"If the devil went along with his request, it means the devil was the desperate one," Darren added.
I scoffed, shaking my head in disbelief. "If you ever find a devil desperate enough to do laundry, let me know. I'll personally pay him a visit and give him something better to do," I said dryly, my eyes narrowing at the thought.
"Then just assume I am," I added, turning my gaze forward again and picking up the pace.
Barry jogged up beside me, clearly not willing to let the conversation die. "C'mon, Doc, you've gotta give us more than that," he said, his tone a mix of teasing and genuine curiosity. "We're not gonna stop guessing until you crack."
I smirked to myself, knowing full well I wouldn't crack. "I've got more self-control than you think, Barry," I replied smoothly, eyes focused on the path ahead. "And besides, where's the fun if I just tell you everything? You'd be bored."
Barry groaned dramatically. "You're impossible, Doc."
"Fine! We'll find out for ourselves!" Darren shouted, his frustration clear.
"Good luck," I said, completely indifferent.
