Chapter 568 - A secret

Wura entered her room with tears welling up in her eyes. She could not remember the last time that she had been here, but this was not the main thought on her mind, what was more on her mind was the fact that she had told Liam and the truth and despite what she thought would happen, the exact opposite was true.

She broke down in tears and fell to the floor. She held herself as she cried. She did not want to seem mean or selfish but she had not wanted Liam to respond in this manner.

She wanted him to accept her with all her flaws after she had told him the entire truth, but at the same time, she knew that it was his right to chose how best to process his thoughts and emotions.

She did not want to be alone tonight, but at the same time, she knew that he needed to be alone. His mind had been wandering, now he finally an an explanation for everything and what scared her most was the way he would process it.

She wanted his forgiveness, that was all she wanted. She wanted them to focus on their future together. Yet, she could not even begin to imagine how far Liam's mind was racing.

Wura felt so inconsolable. Usually, Nora was always here for her, but Nora was still so very angry with her. She had not spoken to her in weeks, and Wura just felt so alone, so very alone, and it was so dangerous because her mind was racing.

She did not know if she would be able to sleep tonight, she could only cry at the moment. Wura walked to her her bed, she slept on it and continued to cry.

...

Liam's eyes were full of tears. He could not remember the last time he had cried like this. It was probably some nights where he felt the strong pain of growing up without a mother, or the night that his father passed and he did not return quick enough to spend enough time with him.

Liam felt so hurt, he felt so betrayed, in the past he had just been angry, so very angry, but now, he was sad. His sadness was unmatched, it felt an empty void within him that could never be filled.

The two most important people in his life had betrayed him in the worst way possible. He could forgive many things, but this sort of betrayal was unforgiveable. Not only did they disregard him and lose hope for his return, they tried to start something new out the rubble that surrounded them and thought that they would be able to succeed.

Liam wished that he could rip his heart out of his chest. His feelings were more than conflicted. Right now he did not know if he still loved Wura, everything was just too much for him to bear and it was in the midst of so much damage.

He could not truly take out time to consider himself and his needs first. Liam layed in bed, he closed his eyes and tried to sleep although the pain he felt on the inside was just too much.

Liam could not sleep, he grabbed his pillow and held it close. This was too much for him, he turned around in his bed and sighed.

...

"Nora, please wash out those dishes, those are the last of them," the cook said.

"Alright," Nora nodded.

She carried the dishes in a large wooden bowl and went outside. She quickly finished washing them and returned inside.

She picked up her dinner and returned outside to eat it alone. The cook along with the other servants in the kitchen looked at her with pity.

It was no new fact that ever since the war ended and everyone had returned, a lot of things changed and so many people changed, that included Nora. Before, she was happy and lively, always ready to help, now she seemed more depressed and unhappy with life.

She was always angry, her usual sweet smile was tucked away never to be seen again. At first everyone thought that it was because her relationship with Mero had ended, but little they did know how truly serious the matter was.

It was no longer a secret that the queen had an affair with Sir Mero, and then everyone began to see more clearly and they understood why Nora was the way she was.

She was the queen's personal maid, it was even said that they were very close, as close as sisters, but that did not seem to be the case considering the huge betrayal she had been dealt by someone who she served diligently with all her might and someone she loved dearly.

No one could console Nora, no one at all. She did not let anyone in. She had swore to herself that she would never allow herself to open up to anyone again, it did not matter who they were.

She was so enraged that she would take any other duty just as long as it meant she no longer had to be under Wura or see her ever again. She just had so much hate in her heart and mind, and she did not think it would ever heal.

"Nora," Zuph called. He knew that he would find her here. She always ate her meals here alone, even though he always told her that she was not alone and could call him at any time.

"What are you doing here, Zuph?" she asked.

"Looking for you, of course, I am worried about you, and you know that," Zuph said, he sat beside her even though it seemed to annoy her.

"You do not need to come and see me every evening, you do not need to check on me like I'm some sort of weakling," she replied.

"No, that is not it at all Nora, you know that if I am here to check on you, it's my own choice, not anyone else's, I am here because I care about you," Zuph said.

"I do not need you to care about me, you should not even care about me," she replied.

Nora had been this abrasive for the past few weeks and at first Zuph thought that she needed some time to come to terms with everything seeing as she had every right to feel the way she was.

However, where he would draw the line would be her chasing everyone away, even those who truly cared for her. He supported her in every decision she took to be able to cope with what happened to her, but pushing him away when all he did was support her was too much.

"Do not confuse yourself, Nora. I do not care about you because you want me to, I care about you because I cannot help it but care about you," he said.

"No matter how hard I try, I find myself worrying about you, thinking about you and I do not know why, maybe it is because I know just how much of a good woman you are, you do not deserve what happened to you. You do not deserve to be alone in such a sad time of your life," he continued.

"I have tried my best to give you the space and silence you need, but I can see that it is doing you no good at this moment. I always wanted to be there for you, always, and even if you do not want me to be, I will be here for you.".

"Let me be there for you, please let me," he pleaded.

Nora did not know why, but tears began to drop from her eyes and she tried her best to dry them but they continued to pour out.

"Oh Nora, Nora, you do not deserve this," Zuph said. He forgot about everything else and without hesitation he hugged her tightly.

Nora melted into his arms. Her plate dropped to the ground and poured out her dinner. She did not care. She held him tightly and began to sob.

Zuph rubbed her back slowly, he knew that she was going through a lot, it was too much and she did not deserve this sadness at all.

"There, there, it is alright, it is alright, it is not your fault, it is none of our fault," he said.

Nora shook her head. The pain she felt inside was too much. She felt like she was exploding, she thought she could keep it to herself, but it was not the case at all.

"No, no," she cried. It was all too much.

"You do not have to be strong, let me help you carry that burden and unlose the knots that have formed deep in your soul, because sometimes, we all need a bit of help," he continued. He wiped away her tears and she sniffed.
