He tilts forward into still space ready to embrace change.
But arms shoot out stall his untoward affair
They are familiar and strong, comforting they should be
You may rest easy, as he's carried on home.
Yet instead, these arms entice him further to fall
These arms aren't there, they're not footholds to bear him
And so he screams to the soundless sky.
How dare this phantom arrest his pain, take him away?
Let him have freedom for one thing in this life! A choice.
To continue on is not worth the struggle of such little return
So ending it all now would end the strife and bring final change.
But the arms squeeze tighter, and his footing slips.
He falls, not forward, but backward.
Into the arms of stubbornness and life.
A phantom of joy and love, holds him tight.
The hug loosens, and arms vanish.
He cannot gather strength to try and take flight.
