Eason Chalmers had been complaining to a few buddies while on the ship; he was quite enthusiastic at the time, but he became reticent about bringing up anything from the cruise after returning.

His buddies could be dissuaded with a few words such as "let's not talk about it" or "nothing worth mentioning," but Henry Shipton wasn't so easily fooled.

He specifically asked Eason, who was blatantly playing dumb.

It was obvious that Eason was definitely hiding something.
