"Exactly, Sir," the investigator said firmly. "According to Miss Aurora's hospital report, her blood group is O positive, and she has G6PD. So I asked the nurses to bring me similar patient files… and that's when I found exactly what I was looking for."Jake's pulse quickened. Could this be it? He leaned forward, his voice tight with anticipation.
"What was the baby's name?" he asked hesitantly.
The investigator's lips curved into a knowing smile. "Hazel Riverson."Jake froze. The name echoed in his mind like a distant memory. "So… are you saying Aurora and Hazel are the same person?" His voice trembled with disbelief."It might be possible, Sir… but we're still not certain," the man replied cautiously. "We'll need a DNA test to confirm. I've already secured a sample of Mr. Williams' hair. All I need now is Miss Aurora's hair sample." Jake's heart was pounding so loudly he could hear it in his ears. "Which hospital did you find this information at?"
"Sir, the Riverson General Hospital."
Jake smirked faintly. "Well, isn't that strange? I'm here right now. Are you still around?"
"No, Sir, I just left. But don't worry I'll get the sample." Jake ended the call, his face lighting up with a rare, almost boyish smile. "Yes," he whispered to himself, "finally… my Aurora will be saved."The nurses were bustling around Aurora, preparing her for discharge."Ma'am, you look so beautiful today," one of them said warmly. "And you've regained your strength."
Aurora's lips curved into a faint smile. "Thank you."
"Your hair is a little messy," the nurse teased. "Shall I brush it for you?"Aurora nodded softly. "Of course you can."The nurse gently ran the comb through Aurora's hair, her fingers subtly plucking a few strands and placing them in a small packet just as Jake had instructed. Moments later, Jake stepped into the ward. The nurse gave him a discreet thumbs-up. He replied with a subtle nod, his eyes glinting with silent satisfaction."Are you ready to go home, baby?" Jake asked.
"Yes," Aurora breathed, her eyes shimmering. "I've missed our home so much."Jake raised a brow, an amused smirk tugging at his lips. "Our home? Since when did you start calling it that?" Aurora grinned mischievously. "Well… we're getting married, aren't we? That makes it our home."Jake's smile deepened. Her words felt like a promise he never knew he needed.Aurora's discharge was met with quiet gratitude from Jake. He tipped the nurses generously."Sir, you don't have to—" one of them began.Jake cut her off gently. "You've been kind to my baby. This is the least I can do."Minutes later, he carried Aurora in his arms as if she weighed nothing, striding out of the hospital. Outside, his men were already stationed, standing tall and alert. The moment they spotted him, they rushed forward to open the car door.
Inside the car, Jake settled beside Aurora, his arm around her shoulders. His fingers threaded through her hair, protective and tender. She rested her head on his chest, the steady beat of his heart lulling her into sleep.
As the car rolled forward, Jake pulled out his phone and called Maxwell."We'll be staying at your place for a day," he said casually. "Thought it might be better she'll get bored in the mansion right now, you know?" Maxwell chuckled on the other end. "You don't have to ask. You can stay as long as you want."
"Good," Jake replied. "We're on our way."
"Welcome home, baby!" Maxwell greeted warmly as they entered.
Aurora's face lit up. "How are you, bestie?" Angel asked, throwing her arms around her.
"I'm fine," Aurora said, giving her a playful spin. "As you can see, I'm strong and looking beautiful as ever."Come on," Angel said with a grin. "Let's have breakfast. It's still morning." The dining room was bright and spacious, but the air felt strangely heavy. Everyone sat in silence, lost in their own thoughts. Aurora, however, was too busy enjoying her food to notice. She caught herself wondering what was weighing on them so much… but decided not to ask.
After breakfast, Jake guided her to the garden for some fresh air."Jake, there's no need to hold me," Aurora teased. "I can walk—see? I'm Superwoman. Have you forgotten?"
Jake smirked. "Yeah, yeah… I know how strong you are. But I still insist. Now, just be quiet and enjoy your reign, my Queen."
Aurora chuckled, dipping her head in mock formality. "As you wish, Your Majesty."
Jake's soft laughter lingered in the air—warm, rare, and entirely for her.
