Chapter 34 - War God Ares

His body on fire, literally aflame with the ethereal flames of wrath he took deep breaths. His lungs feeling like they've never been used properly before he felt a rush. Flexing his fingers a diabolical grin stretched across his face painting him a maniac ready to go on a spree.

He was stronger, he realized, stronger than he ever been or felt, like his entire body was reforged, rebuilt and welded together, like a machine. For War.

His eyes blazing with the fury of millennia of war, the concept of victory and triumph, of overcoming odds and escaping stronger in the end, he cast his spell. His aflame body blazing, his bronze armor glowing with a orange hot light yet he felt nothing but protected, emboldened by the visible manifestation of his power, his true power, he thought. Unlike his siblings his divinity was scarce to manifest into real displays of power, where Zeus had lightening in the skies, Poseidon had the furious waves and even Hera exuded a faint green glow around her, yet for him there was nothing. Until now.

"[Sword Of Damocles]!" In a burst of wrathful flames outshining the sun for a split second, a sword the size of a mountain manifests. Dark, sharp and majestic all at once, all those who beheld it fighting on the battlefield felt their souls shudder with fear and looming doom that only made them fight harder, more ravenous.

The Gods meanwhile all looked up, all of them, including Odin. His eyes popped wide, a look of utter surprise exploded on his face as he witnessed the sword, hanging over his head in the sky, as if it would fall at any moment.

'I wonder if the Frost Giants will put up nearly this good of a fight." He thought at the sight. Not fear, not trepidation or indecision. For Odin fears nothing, and all choices lead to a glorious end, one way or another.

"Ha HA HA! Now THAT is truly something!" He hollers, ever-present excitement at the situation lacing his voice.

Twirling his spear, he stabs it into the ground then with the swish of his arm his runic shield evaporates into mist. He stands there weaponless and wide open for an attack, yet none of the Olympians strike, still at awe in the powers Ares has conjured.

With eyes of steel and his lips moving like the wind he concentrates his magic, incanting spell after spell his body thrumming each time one was completed, rapidly bursting with increasing power.

Ares, his divinity rapidly draining at holding Damocles up, his body feeling tired like a mortals decides enough is enough. Then cuts the chord.

Like the meteor that struck the dinosaurs it descends. The air igniting from the sheer mass and velocity as it fell. It was the end, it was doom.

Odin stopped casting his runes, his body now perpetually glowing with a myriad of colors, thousands of symbols etched across his features glowing reminiscent of the rainbow bridge, he stares it straight at the tip, not flinching.

"All-Father!... Witness me."

The world shuddered as it made landfall, light like a new sun bathed the entire plains in blinding light as deafening shockwaves cascaded throughout Greece. The mortals waging war in the field now gripped their ears, throwing their face in the dirt to protect themselves from the mere aftereffects of Damocles.

The half the mountain the gods fought upon was eviscerated to sea level, nothing but bedrock and marble the ground beneath their feet evaporating as they cast their own slew of defensive spells.

Moments pass, quiet, agonizing moments, and the light subsides, slowly dying out, yet through the silence and the subsequent darkness of smoke and dust the Gods could hear it.

Slow, low, and laborious breathing echoing across the empty landscape. They could hear him before they could see him.

"Haaaaaa... I.. think, I'll figure out.. how to do... the.. same thing... next time....[Lifst...raumur]" A sound like branches growing and crunching the earth emanate, green light glowing in the grey smoke follow, a sign that he had just healed himself.

....

Meanwhile Hades.

Shoving my jaw back in place with a click, I dig myself out the snow muscle and skin quickly repairing over my lower face until I was back to my handsome self. I was on the peak of a mountain, white pure snow falling slowly down on me. I took a deep breath of the clean air, in the future when factories and machines are made pretty much everything in the world would be contaminated with some type of toxic chemical so I wanted to soak up as much of the good stuff as I could.

Using my godly vision I took in the far away battlefield. The scene was problematic to say the least, so much so that a small sigh escaped me. Ares had gone and summoned a god damn sword of Damocles! What the fuck is that anime ass shit! However seeing Odin cast his weaponry away only made me even more worried, maybe he was already strong enough to wield Yggdrasil, which would be bad, for obvious reasons.

My eyes drifted from the scene for a moment landing on someone who shouldn't be where they are right now. Angela, fully geared and surrounded by her very own spartan army sat idle in the forest edge, simply watching the battle. Oh my fucking god bitch. My hand found my face fast.

Seeing that I needed to act I quickly summon a portal to her, a purple swirling oval popping in front of me I run through it.

On the other side the soldiers take a step back as I exit, my height towering over them even in their full plate armor. Then they kneel and bow their heads, great, exactly what I need from them right now, on their knees doing nothing.

"Angela." I call, the woman quickly shoving her way through the soldiers, donned in her own set of armor, made by me. Unlike the soldiers hers was a sexier version with the chest plate jutting out for her boobs and the plate skirt curving a little more than what's needed, other than that its just as protective, even more since I enchanted it with some anti-magic.

She, exactly like her soldiers bends the knee.

"Here to serve, lord Hades." Her fist colliding with her chest with a clang, the others do so as well a second after in sync. I must say I'm quite proud of her to be entirely honest. She only had a few months and already she was Queen of Sparta, practically its founder as before she arrived there it was so small it couldn't truly be called a city. Yet now it was sprawling the landscape, farms lush and golden and even its men and women fiercely loyal, and well trained. Of course, I'm sure Athena had some part in that but impressive, nonetheless.

"You see that giant sword in the sky Angela?" I say glancing toward the sword still hanging in the air, looking back at Angela her eyes up at me.

"Yes, lord Hades. We await your command to engage the Asgardians." Her voice laced in respect and reverence like she would sit here for eternity if I told her to. This, is what I wanted from her, not independence, or doubtfulness of me, no I wanted unwavering faith and loyalty, and she was showing it.

"That is the signal, begin, now." My voice commanding and loud so that all of the soldiers could hear.

"Yes! Lord Hades!" They say in sync, standing from the ground and getting into formation quickly. Angela still looking toward me while her soldiers do what they were trained for says, "Have no doubt Lord, they will not make it back to Asgard alive." With that she then turns around, a soldier running up and handing her a round shield and spear. With her curse of mercy still activated she couldn't outright kill anyone, but self-defense is all about perspective isn't it.

Glancing back at the sword it was no longer hanging, now it was falling. It was majestic to say the least, something as cool as it gets really, I mean how often does a sword the size of mountain appear.

I needed to get back in the fight before Odin manages to kill one of them but there were 9 of them all with ranged attacks so I hoped no one got stabbed. Embarrassing if they did to be honest.

...

Odins golden spear pierces Ares shoulder coming out the other end cleanly, his armor shill shining with runes. His body bloody and bruised yet there were no visible wounds on him, Ares was bewildered at the sight when he shot through the smoke with speed, spear in his should before he could react.

The sword of Damocles was a weapon of mass destruction it should have reduced Odin to dust or at the very least left him immobile. Yet here Ares was, with a spear drilled in his skin. His siblings quickly cast their spells to get him away from Ares.

[Shockwave] The sonic boom blast Odin in the side but he shrugs it off.

[Magma pool] A pit of boiling magma spawn beneath his feet, his greaves sinking down into it, yet he remains inches from Ares not even scowling in pain.

[Mind Rend] Hera casts yet seemingly bounces off of him, useless.

In an instant the spells were cast and in the next were proven insufficient. Poseidon's eyes were cold, calm as the sea watching this, yet below the surface tsunamis thundered. His mind swirled with thoughts that would be thought too slowly, seeing his nephew skewed he acted instead. Blasting off leaving the earth quaking he collides with Odin his shoulder and strength enough to shove him off of Ares, the spot where the spear was leaving a gaping hole in Ares shoulder, the veins surrounding glowing with runic decay.

"God of the Sea's, finally doing something huh?" Again he charged, shield manifesting in his hand he swung at Poseidon.

He reacted with a thin blades of water, so compressed and concentrated they could slice through netherite. Odin weaved and dodged still assailing Poseidon then thrust his spear at his gut.

Using his trident he captures Odins spear sending it speeding to the dirt and tries to smack him with his pommel his eyes glowing a florescent blue of strength.

Odin was quick let go of his trapped spear and grab hold of the trident using Poseidon's rock solid form launches from it with a dropkick lifting his entire body from the leverage, denting in his chest sending him sprawling on the ground, losing his grip on his Trident.

"Something, but not much, huh." He looks around at the remaining gods, Ares incapacitated as his Odins magic battles his divinity, Poseidon crumpled and gasping as his chest slowly mends, and the others were simply not melee fighters. He sneers looking at them, his eyes judging and full of contempt.

"This? Is what you can do? You are a Pantheon of Gods, yet there is only one who deserves the title. And where is he to save you? Where is Hades!?" He exclaims sliding his spear past every one of them as she speaks down to them.

They're silent, knowing not what to say, or do. The field was silent. Except for one man.

"You're asking for me?" The sky begins to darken, shadow overcasting the field as they all look to the source. Hades, standing atop what remained of the mountain looking down onto Odin. His face was calm, eyes cold, glowing and blazing with infernal power. Growing, Building. His eyes glance to his family, the strange new family he's come to love in this new life and something stirs within him. Anger.

His toga begins to burn, deep, dark, purple flames slowly creeping up.

He jumps from the cliff, his landing quaking the earth as his flesh begins to transform into bleached bone. Then he starts walking, the ground groaning with each step.

"When I first heard news of your approach, I was leery.... apprehensive on what to do." His toga bursts and blazes, converting into a terrifying picture of the damned clawing for salvation. His feet leaving smoldering pits in the rock he approaches Odin.

"At first I had hoped that we would figure something out, come to a mutual understanding that this land is not yours. Yet now I see it clearly." Looking at Ares and Poseidon's crumpled form he cast [Deaths Boon] on the both of them, surging them with life as they regenerate rapidly.

"So with great hesitance, I will kill you, Odin, God of War and Destruction." His skull exploding in a blazing inferno as he transforms fully, his deathly crown above his head towering over Odin, his empty sockets staring at him dread inducingly.

"You will try." [Call of Yggdrasil] His eyes and body bursting with green golden energy he readies himself Infront of Hades, even to him, his from was imposing.

"And you will die." Darkness overcasting the sky, the only source of light being that of Hades blazing skull his magic quakes the earth.

"[Hades Final Accord]" His voice echos throughout Greece, his power causing the trees to shake from the manifestation of his will the earth itself feeling violated from what comes next.

Groans, like that of beasts and beings in great pain thunder in everyone's ears. Then the first sign of the spell appears. A hand more beast than man slides from the ground, clawing out, blue and translucent its body following soon after. Millions of them, the damned returning after years of hell, with vengeance. The field once empty and dark now glowed with the light of a million damned souls, light barely noticeable chains from each one attached to Hades demonic form.

"Eternally indentured souls, I release you." His voice calm and solid echos from his bleached skull thundering in their brains.

At once like an unstoppable tsunami Odin is entrenched soul after soul body after body grasping and tearing at him. There would be no fight, or escape, only death. Hades gripped his halberd and flies at Odins form buried in souls of the damned as he slices and dices his way through them, those killed quickly rematerialize moments later, like the unrelenting tide.

"[Asgards legion!]" Shimmering golden soldiers spawn around him giving him much needed breathing room, yet unlike Hades army they were quickly overwhelmed and killed, staying dead. Hades himself bisected one as he surged upon Odin his Halberd denting in his vambrace as he attempted to amputate his arm. Yet the runes protected him, deflecting and negating the damage, but Hades could tell, as the runes began to dim and fade, as Odin was given no respite to recast them that he would fall today, he would die, now.

[Dark Lance] A beam of concentrated Death shoots from his pointed halberd at Odin his armor still tanking the blow but sending him skidding in a new circle of the dead quickly entombed by them.

Odin tried casting area attack magic, the empty space simply filled again and again.

For the first time since landing on Greek ground Odin displayed not excitement or ravenous desire for War... but Fear. As the dead clawed at him, they tore at his armor, ripping the belts, biting the chains, and clawing apart the buckles. His armor started to drop to the ground as they bit and clawed at every point of it, finding and destroying the very parts that attached it to him. His vambraces were to the first to fall, using them as last second shields when they slashed at his face with their claws, then it was greaves as they gnawed and tore at his legs from the ground. In a final action of desperation, he calls upon the World tree once again, Hades encroaching with his halberd raised high, his doom imminent.

"[Boughs Of the End] Calling upon Yggdrasil once again, his head groans and pounds in protest from the absurd use of magic he has used in the previous fights, rifts tear through the sky. Branches and roots fall upon the battlefield crushing and shredding the souls, permanently ending them this time.

However, Hades had not slowed, he had not sat and waited for Odin to cast his powerful magic no he was there, axe inches away from severing his head from his body. But then the sky thundered, and a rainbow tore through it landing precisely on Odin, stealing him away his axe biting air.

Hades sat there for moment considering the events that had unfolded. The roots and branches of Yggdrasil still wreaking havoc on the battlefield and it irked him so. Odin had escaped, fled, he had come to his home, defiled his lands with his army and hurt his family. His fury soared his power surging the blaze of his skill exploding into white hot flame his magic burst out.

[True Death- Doom] The souls sensing the fury of their eternal master fled, diving into the ground in fear, the other gods far away looking flinched subconsciously and Yggdrasil, the world tree... quivered. Darkness like the dying of the last star encapsulated the field, the tree still alive quickly wasn't. Decay and rot, blackness crawled and climbed over the tree's limbs reducing it to less than ashes.

And then the sun was back.

....

And then they won ahh ending. Any way wanted this to be done with and didn't really know how to do it, hope you enjoyed.
