Lucy Ansley also expressed her apology and gently reassured her. Only then did Elaine's expression gradually lighten up, "Anna, if Henry doesn't take good care of you, you can come back anytime. Backlake is not far from here, visit often when you're free, okay?"

Outside the door, on the steps below, Henry stood, silhouetted by the light, holding a cigarette in one hand while on the phone.
Lucy didn't interrupt, quietly standing still and waiting for him.
